Ladies and gentlemen – the Fashionomics Report (aka how much do I spend on clothes a month) is back for 2017, due to popular demand!
Well okay, only one demand. But it was from Miss 20 and she said my posts had inspired her to keep track of her fashion spending this year, and that she loved seeing the things I bought (even though she gets to see them in real life – strange girl!).
So here we are again 🙂 – I bring you the details of how much I spend on clothes each month, and what I got for my money.
How Much Do You Spend on Clothes a Month?!
Last year I spent the grand total of $1061. That works out to spending about $88 per month on clothing – although some months I seemed to binge on fashion, and others I didn’t.
This past month has been a quiet one, spending wise. I bought one dress when we were in Bali, from the sunset market stalls at our resort (the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa).
In Bali, it’s all about bartering, so I think the stall holder originally wanted approximately $25 AUD for this dress. We bargained him down to $15 AUD including a frangipani hair clip.
Fashionomics Report January 2017
Items bought: 1
This month’s total original ticket “value”: $25
I paid: $15
Total Spend for the Year: $15
Having spent just $15 in January, I’m off to a very frugal start for 2017 …
So are you brave enough to share with me – how much do you spend on clothes a month? Do you have plenty of money to splash around – or are you on a micro-budget?!
Julia says
YAY! I’m so glad you’re doing fashionomics reports again! xx
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks baby girl! x

You’re looking so relaxed in that beautiful dress, Janet. It looks super comfortable too
Janet Camilleri says
Ahhh yes Bali definitely worked it’s magic on me!
Beth | AlmostPosh.com says
Yes I’m definitely on track again with the #StyleCost2017 project!
Janet Camilleri says
Yay! Look forward to following again:-)

I wouldn’t have a clue. I tend to buy in lumps every three or four months. Or maybe even just twice a year… in summer and winter. You are doing very well with only $15 so far!
Janet Camilleri says
I might drop back to that pattern of spending Pinky too, now that Miss 20 and my sister are both working fulltime (my fave partners in crime/shopping)!
Liz Posmyk (Good Things) says
Nice one and glad to see this report is back!
I have spent about $100 at my local Vinnies Op Shop over the last two months… bought myself (my new, 17kg slimmer self!), a whole summer wardrobe, after donating a heap of fat lady pants to the charity.
Must admit, I did buy ONE new “pretty” dress, but am so happy with the others, particularly the Guava brand, which have drawn many nice compliments. xx
Janet Camilleri says
Woohooo that is an amazing achievement Liz, glad to hear you have splashed out on some new threads. Meanwhile lately I have been the one at the op shop, snapping up your cast offs as I have sadly put on some weight this past year. Hopefully the aqua aerobics will help with that situation though!
Stef says
Beautiful colours in that dress!
Janet Camilleri says
Isn’t it gorgeous! Most of the dresses available were in shades of blue, but I already have so many blue dresses it was nice to pick something different 🙂
Jan Wild says
I’m not as disciplined as you but have decided that this is the year of buying more second hand clothes (I already do some of this) than new clothes. Partly economic, partly environmental concerns.
Gorgeous dress from Bali, it looks lovely on you.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Jan! I started out op shopping years ago for financial reasons, but nowadays I continue to shop there for the environmental benefits – as well as supporting charity 🙂
