Perhaps you’ve heard the rumour – I’m changing my blog’s name!
Although I’ve enjoyed blogging as Redland City Living for the past 14 months, the reality is that the blog has taken off in a far different direction to what I initially envisioned (I’m sure I’m not the only one that has found this!).
And that’s okay … but it’s time to adjust to that shift in the wind.
I originally wanted my blog to focus on my local area – a bit of a tourist and lifestyle guide for locals and visitors, and to whet the appetite of folk further afield.
But as time went on I realised that this was not the content that brought the readers, or more importantly, what I enjoyed blogging about most.
No, what brought readers was when I was keeping it real – sharing about my ordinary life as an ordinary woman, the struggles and the joys. Sometimes silly, sometimes serious, as I post about life with a husband, two teenagers, various pets, finding my feet after redundancy, establishing a business from home, trying to put a mostly rotten childhood behind me, and yes, still wanting to look good even though that first flush of youth is past! If life begins at 40, I’ve still got a long way to go ;-).
As my “About” page says, I’m a middle aged mama with a passion for fashion and looking good, no matter what your budget. As an “almost empty-nester” (the kids still live here but they’re hardly ever home!), I feel like I am re-discovering all that life has to offer.
And so, it seems only natural that I am now changing my blog’s name to:
(can I have a drumroll please!)
Middle Aged Mama!
I’ve already bought the domain name middleagedmama.com.au (there’s nothing there at the moment so don’t worry about visiting just yet!), and am in the process of making the switch (of course, will let you know when it’s ready to go LIVE!).
Don’t worry, you should still be able to find me at redlandcityliving.com, and if you’ve bookmarked your favourite posts or saved a link, they should still work too thanks to some snazzy re-directs (I hope!). I’ll have to update my user name on social media, Bloglovin’ and seven hundred and fifty thousand other places (Me, exaggerate?! Well maybe just a little)!
It could take a while, but I’m just so excited I couldn’t keep the new name to myself any longer!
Besides, I felt a bit silly calling myself the Redland City Girl at the age of 47. So it’s out with the young, and in with the Middle Aged Mama!
Have you ever thought about changing your blog’s name? Do you like my new name – Middle Aged Mama?!
Nicole says
Love the new name Janet. Looking forward to seeing the new site.
Psych Babbler says
Love the new name! You’re right…I find reading about your life so much more captivating…knowing the person and their life is what entices me about blogs and blogging. It’s real… looking forward to the changes!
Me says

Vanessa says
Love it! Hope the transition goes smoothly for you.
Aroha @ Colours of Sunset says
That’s great Janet! Very exciting! My blog name used to be my “IRL” name, then I changed it for anonymity purposes. I wanted Chasing Sunset but it was claimed years ago by someone who never used it. So I became Colours of Sunset, which I don’t love, but it will have to do for now I think. x Aroha
Rhianna says
Great name lovely, can’t wait to see the new site, wishing you all the best with it
Emily says
Good for you! Will add it to the reader in anticipation!

(And there must be something going around, because I’m thinking of changing my blog’s name, and I know Robo is too! CRAZY!)
Janet Camilleri says
I think, like This Charming Mum said, that it is part of the blog cycle … we blog for a while and then realise the name just isn’t quite the right fit. Some stick with it and make “it” work; others decide that their current name is too limiting and take the plunge – like me – and you – and Robomum!
Beck/craftypjmum says
Love the name π I imagine that I will change my blog name one day in the future as well. I look forward to reading new posts from you. Hope you have a wonderful year xx
Zita says
I love the new name and your reasonings for chosing it!! I think it makes it more personal and about YOU! Fantastic! Look forward to continue to read more about your ordinary journey through life! π
lisa says
Congratulations Janet!! love the new name-exciting times for you.
Pinky Poinker says
I’m so excited for you! I love the title and I’ll definitely be a middleaged, middleagedmumma follower π
Janet Camilleri says
Yay! Glad to have you follow me on my new adventure!
Kirsten and co. says
LOVE the new name! Congrats on taking the leap to change it. My blog was originally k&co. but I changed it to Kirsten and co. because the internet doesn’t like putting ‘&’ in web/email addresses, so it was very hard to make all my various social media accounts streamlined. Like you, I changed the name fairly early on and it was a fairly pain free process π I’m looking forward to reading your Middle Aged Mama adventures x
Janet Camilleri says
It was a big decision but in the end I felt the pros outweighed the cons. Fingers crossed the transition goes smoothly!
Bec @ The Plumbette says
Woohoo! Love the name and can’t wait to see the new site! π
Nikki@WonderfullyWomen says
Love it!…..and as I am a MAM, I so get it! π
Janet Camilleri says
There’s a few of us around Nikki, so I hope you (and they) all enjoy the new site!
Renee at Mummy, Wife, Me says
I think it’s a great name! Good on you. I’m looking forward to seeing the new site when it’s up and running.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Renee – I’m looking forward to that moment too! π
Nicole says
LOVE the new name, LOVE it!!!!
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Nicole, I was surprised the domain was still up for grabs so I grabbed it as fast as I could!
Emma Fahy Davis says
I love it! Love it! Will be watching as the new image takes over! Hubby tells me I am *never* allowed to change my blog name to Six Degrees of Chaos π
Liz says
Exciting times, Janet ! I like it.
Janet Camilleri says
Thank you Liz, and thank you for sticking with me through a few different transformations! xxx
Lara @ This Charming Mum says
I’ve considered doing this a few times, but it’s such a big job! It would be like moving house – all that redirecting and making sure people have the new details! It seems like part of the natural ‘blog cycle’ to be actively using your blog for awhile before you figure out what you really enjoy writing about and who your readership is. Best of luck with the change! I look forward to seeing it take shape π
Janet Camilleri says
It’s huge Lara – I’m only at the very start – but I have googled how to change my name on Twitter, Facebook, how to redirect blog traffic etc – and saved all the most helpful sites so hopefully that will make it easier.
Jaz @ Red Dolls says
Love it Janet, may the new name bring you much success and bloggy awesomeness π
Janet Camilleri says
Thank you! I’m hoping so – I think a lot of people didn’t bother to visit my blog before thinking “I don’t live in the Redlands (or even know where it is) so it’s not really relevant for me”. Fingers crossed this will bring in more traffic!
Jaz @ Red Dolls says
Fingers crossed for you. I started my blog as being all things Kalgoorlie but in the interest of not alienating anyone I broadened my horizons – good luck!
Janet Camilleri says
Ohhh – that’s interesting to know. When I started my blog Rachel from Redcliffe Style warned me that having a place name might make it limiting … but at the time it was what I wanted to do! She’s stuck with Redcliffe Style as a name, and has really made it work – hats off to her!
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Well, from one middles aged mama to another, I love it!!! It’s such a cool name Janet, and I’m also surprised it was still available, must have been meant to be.
I started off as Home/Work/Mum, but after a while realized that Random Acts Of Zen was a much better fit.
We must catch up soon honey xx
