It’s a strange thing – what we women may think is this season’s “must have”, is sometimes anything but to a man.
Here are 5 fashion trends men just don’t get – and I don’t just mean in the hubster’s opinion (though I assume he’s pretty typical of men in general). I Must Confess: I actually did my research peoples! I posed the question on Facebook and Twitter just to make sure I got a good cross-section of responses (half a dozen people responding counts as a good sample, doesn’t it?!).
5 Fashion Trends Men Just Don’t Get
- Number one on the list is dungarees/overalls – short or long. According to the hubster, they’re “shapeless and ugly”. They’re baggy, they’re saggy, they’re altogether daggy … *sung to the tune of the Addams family*. And as you can see by the photo above, they’re back in store now …
- Patchwork. Why would any girl want to dress in anything that even pretends to look old? I found this out the hard way – I had a favourite summer dress with a patchwork print on the skirt. Hubster HATED it with a passion, and thought it belonged in the rag bag even when it was brand new!
- Rae from I Opened my Mouth and it Ran Away without Me brought up the subject of onesies. Actually, I’m a woman and *I* don’t get onesies either! They’re too much of a challenge when it comes to visiting the toilet – not to mention having to strip off when it’s freezing cold!
- Meanwhile, Songul from Unorganised Mum cast her vote for harem pants / dropped crotch pants. The hubster agreed – they’re just nasty.
- And last but not least – patterned pants. As Lauren from SAHM I Am put it: “Apparently it looks like I am wearing my pajamas!” Well Lauren, I think you’re spot on with this one because my hubster is another fellow who doesn’t like them.
Do you have anything to add to the list of fashion trends that men just don’t get?
Hugzilla says
Ok, I’d suspected it for a while but now I am utterly convinced that I am a man. Team Hubster all the way!
Emma Fahy Davis says
I had a pair of overalls when I was pregnant with the gremlins, by the time I was 36 weeks with 14lb of baby on board, I couldn’t get the bib done up any more!
The idea of a onesie really appeals to me, they look so warm, but after five babies, the thought of having to get in and out of one six times a night to pee puts me off…
Min@Minsmash says
OMG – I am a fashion disaster coz I like most of those – except the onesies (too hard when one needs to go to the ladies and not very flattering). Hence why I am not a fashion blogger! 😉
Janet Camilleri says
I’m not sure I’m a fashion blogger either Min. Maybe I should have called my blog the “Make Believe Fashion Blogger”!
Ness says
I think men just don’t understand in general why we need so many shoes and accessories to go with different outfits. They have to match! That’s why. But they don’t get it. Not a fan of onsies or overalls myself. Can’t believe they’re back in.
Janet Camilleri says
I know! My hubby is like, “why do you need another pair of black shoes?” – um because these are boots/sandals/wedges, they’re not exactly the same!
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
All of the above! And add short hair (on me) and a few other weird things that I can’t remember right now. However, if I’m in love with it I don’t care what he thinks!! x
Janet Camilleri says
What is it with men preferring women with longer hair?! Hubster says my hair’s too short EVERY.SINGLE.FLIPPING.TIME I get a trim! But then I tell him it’s so I can last longer between trips to the hairdresser – and he knows how much that costs – so it usually shuts him up!
Mystery Case says
This is too funny and I have to agree with all of them. I’m also adding the shredded jeans that ones where there is pretty much nothing left and calling them actual jeans is debatable.
Janet Camilleri says
Yessssss – shredded jeans – another one
hubsteroops the man just hate!Tegan says
I have to admit that I didn’t really get the harem pants until recently. I got myself a pair and while they aren’t the most fashionable pair of pants..they are so ridiculously comfy that I really don’t care. I went back and bought two more pairs!
Janet Camilleri says
Isn’t that the way, usually they dislike anything we find comfy.
Zita says
Ok, I have to admit I am with the men with numbers 1, 2 and 3, but love my harem and printed pants!!
Rae Hilhorst says
I bought a pair of patterned pants, under sufferance, wore them once, washed them once, they shrunk, problem solvered, binned them 🙂
Kathy Marris says
I agree with the patterned pants. My hubby always makes a comment when I wear my soft drapy leopard print pants that are oh so comfortable! He simply doesn’t like them, but everyone is wearing these currently.
Johanna says
My hubby would agree with all of the above (and I do too actually) Dungarees are only for twentysomethings in my mind, or if you’re up a ladder doing some painting perhaps 😉 I’ve never owned a onesie but Dave has made it perfectly clear that if I buy one we get divorced – immediately!
Ingrid says
Haha, patterned pants do look like pjs on me. My dad used to call every new fashion purchase of mine pjs when I was growing up. It was a running joke between us.
