Make no mistake about it – great taste runs in the family – or in the Middle Aged Mama family at least …
Great Taste Runs in the Family: My Daughter
Miss 18 and I both fell in love with the same shirt at the Billabong outlet at DFO recently – it was only $9.95, so we both ended up buying it. (Oh and I don’t want to know who wore it better; the fact that she’s 18, slender and has legs up to her armpits makes any comparisons just a little unfair π … )
It’s probably the first time we’ve bought something similar; the fact that I’m a size 14, and she’s a size 8, plus the thirty year age difference, means that we don’t often go for the same styles. But I think it could become more of a problem now she has hit adulthood!
Great Taste Runs in the Family: My Sister
My sister and I have often made a beeline for the same item of clothing when we are out shopping together, much to the amusement of our daughters. Although we’ve never turned up at a social occasion in the exact same outfit (yet!), we do have an uncanny ability to buy the same clothes without realising.
For example, last month when I posted a pic on social media of myself wearing black jeans, striped tshirt, a red cardigan and ballet flats, my niece couldn’t help but laugh. Turns out my sister, unbeknownst to me, was wearing almost exactly the same outfit on the same day!
We’ve even got the same pose down pat π .
Great Taste Runs in the Family: My Stepmum
Blood isn’t necessarily thicker than water – it seems if you’re in the same family long enough, you can also develop similar taste.
Case in point: my stepmother couldn’t believe it when I posted a pic on Facebook last year of a new tunic I’d bought at Katies – as she’d bought the exact same tunic, a few weeks earlier!
I often wonder if other families are the same …
So tell me – does great taste run in YOUR family?!
Tonia Zemek says
You’re right, that’s one fashionable family you’ve got there. Love that snap of you and your daughter (and what a bargain to boot)!
Janet Camilleri says
LOL we couldn’t believe it when we both liked it enough to buy it!
Ashlea @ Glamour Coastal Living says
Yes – you are so right when you tend to be around eachother for long enough you seem to like the same things! My sister and I are the same clothes size so we are always swapping wardrobes which is fun! My husband and I have been known to both walk out of the house in similar looks too – the other day it was denim and a white shirt! eeeek now thats embarrassing (I made him get changed!)
Janet Camilleri says
When I was a teenager my sisters and I used to swap clothes all the time. My wardrobe decreased by two thirds when I left home! I think it’s cute you and hubby dress alike!
Emily says
Mum and I often like the same clothes. We live far apart these days and also wear things very differently, so we just buy them anyway! We even wore the same skirt to a party once and no-one noticed. She’s better with scarves and accessories than I am – I rarely even bother with them. #teamIBOT
Janet Camilleri says
Emily, Miss 18 is always teasing me about my obsession with scarves – so maybe that comes with *ahem* increased maturity.
Kathy says
You’ll have to be careful on family occasions with your similar styles. I’m pretty individual with my style so I’m OK.
Janet Camilleri says
Kathy, at this rate I’m sure it’s only a matter of time!
Snoskred says
The ladies in my family often end up with the same outfits as a surprise. π
That top seems like quite a bargain at $9.95 π
Janet Camilleri says
It was a great bargain wasn’t it! I think this is the first item of clothing by Billabong I’ve ever owned – I don’t normally pay their kind of prices!
Bec @ Styled by Bec says
I hope this comment works Janet, because I’ve lost two comments on here using my plumbette url and name. I’ve often dressed the girls in similar clothes to me without realizing. Even my mum and I can show up to an event wearing similar colours or a similar outfit. It’s funny when it happens isn’t it?
Janet Camilleri says
Yay it worked Bec – don’tcha just hate it when comments don’t work? I’m not surprised with you and your mum seeing as you often borrow from her wardrobe, clearly you have similar taste π . Do you ever dress your girls in the same outfit? My mum used to do that with me and the next sister down. I think she gave up by the time the 3rd girl came along!
Hugzilla says
Hahhahahhaha Janet, this is brilliant. This is why you are far and away my favourite style blogger.
EssentiallyJess says
Ha ha! Oh that’s funny!
I don’t know that my sisters and I buy the same things. Though now I’m intrigued.
Kelly says
Wow! That’s awesome. This doesn’t happen in my family, but it happens with my best friend. We always buy the same thing, and don’t even realise it. It’s a bit hopeless though, as I can never borrow any of her clothes! I obviously already have that item π
