Here’s one from the random facts about Janet file: I can’t drink soft drink (soda/pop for the non-Aussies amongst us).
I don’t think I’ve ever met somebody else with this problem. I know lots of people *choose* not to drink soft drink for various reasons – it’s full of sugar; it causes tooth decay; it’s bad for our bodies; it’s just empty calories; water is cheaper and much better for you!
But that’s not why I can’t drink soft drink.
Why I Can’t Drink Soft Drink
I just can’t stand the fizziness (or frizziness as I used to say when I was a little girl!). It hurts my mouth!
In fact, I have never downed a whole can of soft drink in my whole life. I can manage a mouthful or maybe two, but to drink a glass is well nigh impossible for me – unless it’s very nearly flat.
I must have super sensitive taste buds, because I can’t stand anything spicy either. No matter how awesome it tastes (like a Thai green curry), I can’t stand the pain.
And if I do happen to drink soft drink (because there’s no other choice), chances are I will end up with extreme tummy pains (aka wind – sorry if that’s TMI!).
About the only way I can drink it, is if I add just a small amount of lemonade or cola to a glass of cordial. Then I can enjoy a glass of refreshing – very watered down – fizz!
Over the years, it *has* made me feel like a bit of a social leper, particularly in the days before drinking coffee became trendy. It’s almost as un-Australian as hating seafood!
So never mind the fact that I can’t handle alcohol (one sip and I come over all giggly) – it seems I can’t handle my soft drink either!
Am I weird or does anybody else have the same problem, and just can’t drink soft drink?!

I would just die without my Diet Coke! You poor thing; I guess no champers for you either? Think how much healthier you must be though.
Janet Camilleri says
You’re right – definitely not a fan of champers!
Ness says
This is probably a good thing, so much healthier! I’m more of a cup of tea girl, but I do like a scotch and coke (or two). Ahem.
Janet Camilleri says
Yes, I’m a cup of tea gal too … though I don’t mind the odd glass of moscato – it’s both sweet and low alcohol content so perfect for a lightweight like me!

I go on and off of soft drink. Last week I couldn’t get enough of lemonade. This week, I don’t care about it. Weird.
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
I wish I couldn’t drink it – I’d then be saved from constant temptation! My youngest doesn’t like soft drink and that’s fine with me while my older kids like it but only have it on special occasions. Meanwhile Nathan and I are trying to reduce our intake. It’s much easier when it doesn’t find it’s way into the house!!!
Zita says
I can but choose not to. I don’t really like the fizziness or the taste, let alone the sugar!
Usually if for some strange reason I have a craving, usually a mouthful is enough to satisfy it.
Natalie @ our parallel connection says
I’ve never heard of anyone not being able to drink soft drink. The only way I like my soft drink is if it has alcohol,in it.. Lol #imustconfess
Raych aka Mystery Case says
I hear you. I’m a lot like that with alcohol, in that it hurts my pancreas. I gave up drinking for a whole 15 years and only just recently started having the odd glass for a special occasion. It too makes me feel like the odd one out at social events.

I once had a horrible addiction to Coke Zero (from a can only, not bottle) which began with Diet Coke while I was pregnant with Miss 11- I would drink a can a day at work. How bad is that?! I loved the fizziness which seemed to help with the feeling of bloating. I gave up soft drink 2.5 years ago when I cut out sugar from my diet. I had a mouthful about a year ago when I was given a drink of bourbon- but I spat it out, just couldn’t bring myself to drink it anymore. I only drink red or white wine and not very often- 1 or 2 glasses only for me!

We all have our quirks. I don’t really drink tea or coffee and can only drink hot drinks in cold weather. Coffee I can’t drink hot, it makes me feel queasy but iced coffee, I love it.

Ha what a random post, love it!
My 4 year old doesn’t like soft drink. He hates the bubbles too! He had a sip of lemonade yesterday and nearly spat it out!
I would not like to not be able to drink soft drink, i love a bourbon and icy cold coke!
