Babies are so delicious aren’t they?!
Especially now I am at the stage where I can have a lovely cuddle – and then hand them back to their parents!
I remember loving dressing up my babies (now 22 and almost 20), and all the cute baby clothes to choose from.
However – I’m not a fan of the trend to dress tiny babies in funky, hip gear – like little denim jackets, jeans, and the like. Sure, they’re cute but I can’t help thinking – there’s plenty of time to like trendy and cool, later on in life. Why not just let babies be babies?
I don’t know about you but I think there is nothing more gorgeous than a baby in a Bonds wondersuit, or a summer onesie. (Actually, what do you call them? I’ve heard wondersuit, all-in-one, onesie, sleep suit, rompers …)
Our very own Miss 19 as a baby ๐
So soft and snuggly, and I love the padding of their nappied bottoms, especially as they are crawling along. Just wanna pat them on the bum!
To me,ย that’s what babies should be wearing most of the time! They’re comfortable AND practical – easy for nappy changes, laundering, and the top and bottom don’t come apart making baby’s tummy or back chilly.
Some of the trendy little outfits just don’t look comfortable at all. I can’t help feeling a bit sorry for the little tikes that are forced to wear them.
Once a baby is walking, it’s a different story. I’m talking about the delicate newborn stage, through to crawling babies.
Why can’t we just let babies be babies – or am I just an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy?!

I think babies are weird aliens ๐ But philosophically agree! Just like let kids be kids. Let them go sit in the mud and play. It’s just mud. They don’t need the latest and greatest and most expensive play stuff.

LOL when Miss 19 was a bub (smaller than in the photo above) we used to call her our little “alien baby” because she was bald and looked kinda weird!

I have to admit I used to think the Anne Geddes pics were cute back in the 1990s and guess this is a version of that – dressing them in ultra cute clothes or as characters. It’s kinda funny – unless of course the baby is uncomfortable and then I agree… it’s a bit selfish of parents to do that just for a good pic or admiration!

I gave my 3 year old nephew a teddy bear onesie when he was a bub, sooo cute. I can see why parents choose to dress their babies in the hip outfits for a professional photo shoot, or other “special” occasion – I’m talking more about the parents that pretty much ONLY dress their kids in this stuff.

If you’re a fuddy duddy so am I! Totally agree! Those demin outfits and the like are totally impractical. Trying to dress a baby in a onsie was hard enough!

I hear you!! What is the mini-me trend?? I also cannot stand any little child being dressed in black, or animal print. It’s me. I just don’t think they are appropriate. Loved this! Thanks for linking up today.

I totally agree! I have three girls, and struggle constantly to buy them age-appropriate clothes. Too-short shorts, half-cut tops etc are all in the shops at the moment. It makes it difficult to find some decent fitting clothes. As babies, I’d dress them in onesies and cute dresses. I know a few people who dress their kids ‘up’ as every-day wear, but it is not something I would do.

I can’t say that it really bothers me, although I do love to see babies in little patterned onesies. Very cute.

I have to agree, i cant resist a cute nappied bottom in a onesie. Have to wait for grandies now ( can’t believe I am saying that! I’ll be waiting….)
The kids clothing market is HUGE, and there are loads of parents who want their kids in only the latest and best, and panic at the sight of a bit of mud.
I hardly ever have much for the salvos bag at the end of my kids clothes’ lives. They are always too lived in!

My daughter (now 3.5) lived in suits as a baby, except if we went out visiting and I’d usually change her into some cute little age-appropriate duds. Didn’t feel the necessity to have her stuffed into outrageous gear all the time, as cute as it looks on the hangers. Definitely no denim or anything too stiff and uncomfortable. Still zip her into a suit occasionally for bedtime though. So cute
