A Sentence A Day: August 2019

pros and cons of working from home

Welcome to the August 2019 edition of A Sentence a Day!

And just like that, the calendar has turned over to spring and it’s time to put away the winter clothes I only just unpacked. We are now on the downhill slide to the “C” word (Christmas!) … that’s it, putting my fingers in my ears, closing my eyes, and singing “lalalalalala” …

This month marks TWO WHOLE YEARS since I started my “Sentence a Day” blogs (you can read my first Sentence a Day post here). Can you believe it?! Nope, me either. Time flies when you’re having fun!

1 August – Strategy meeting with a potential client on the other side of town. I felt we had a really good rapport so I’m feeling hopeful …

2 August – In the evening a festival got underway at the local Showgrounds, about a mile or more from our home as the crow flies. The music was so loud, I could still hear it when I went to bed at 11.15 pm!

3 August – We did a bit of shopping for bits and pieces for the house, and stopped for a peanut butter hot chocolate and macaron treat. Nom nom nom!

4 August – “Meet the parents” – we had coffee with Miss 22 and her man, and met his dad and stepmum. Oh, and I finally found the box of winter clothes that went missing in our shift – happy days!

5 August – The new cat climber arrived (that I’d ordered online last week) – hopefully this will distract Miss Fleur from destroying the sofas …

It’s a success! Fleur loves her new cat climber

6 August – Found a new show I like on SBS – “2000 Years of London”. Love the reminders of the great time we had there in 2015!

7 August – I presented on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for a local business breakfast which went really well, and there was so much interest I’m hosting a workshop for business owners next month to Kickstart their SEO.

8 August – A foggy start to the morning.

9 August – I’ve started a 12 week coaching program to help me whip my business into shape, and had an online session this morning. Ah the wonders of modern technology!

10 August – We finally chose some wallpaper, ready to do one wall in the lounge and one in my office.

11 August – Spent my Sunday doing a grocery shop and dyed my hair. I loved the temporary rinse so much I’ve now gone down the permanent path!

New hair don’t care!

12 August – Miss 22 and I both had the day off, so we did a spot of shopping … she bought some goodies for her wedding favours.

Loved this fake cowhide rug at Kmart …

13 August – Had a few leads today for business, always a good feeling to know my services are in demand 🙂 .

14 August – While I was busy working at my desk, we had a tradie here to hang the wallpaper – yay! I also picked up and dropped off Mr 25 from the mechanic as he had to take his car in.

New entertainment unit and wallpaper – still needs a big TV mounted on the wall and some more handles

15 August – Miss 22 has got me hooked on “The Bachelor”, and then I watched “Goggle Box” afterwards for the first time – oh my goodness I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard!

16 August – Mr 25 came home with a bottle of Moscato just for me 🙂 – a thank you for helping him out on Wednesday perhaps?!

Mmmmmmoscato!

17 August – It was a super Saturday! I caught up with my local Bees for brunch followed by a spot of shopping (and the worst hot flush EVER), thus avoiding all the racket and mess at home. The cabinet maker installed my new desk and kitchen cupboards, that horrible pull out pantry is gone for good!

18 August – Made spaghetti for Sunday lunch and nearly cried, it was such a joy to be working in my “new” kitchen.

Our kitchen now has a double door pantry!

19 August – Visited a couple of properties and wrote up the listings for a local real estate agent – met this lovely kitty at one of the houses!

Lovely kitty

20 August – I had a specialist appointment and turned up right on schedule – only to find I’d mucked the dates up and was there one day early! Luckily it was only 5 minutes from home and not in town.

21 August – Specialist appointment Take 2!

22 August – Coffee with my lovely friend Jean, we used to work together about 10 years ago and now both run our own businesses.

23 August – Had to go for a kidney ultrasound which involved drinking a LOT of water, ugh. I thought those days were behind me!

24 August – Despite our busy weekend schedule, the husbear insisted that we go out for a quick date – to the local pub for a cider. It was yummy!

25 August – Today we went shopping, we are desperately in need of some form of storage for all our shoes, as this is what our lovely entry usually looks like … #keepingitreal

Believe me, it gets more cluttered than this …
Instead of a hall table, we were thinking maybe a chest of drawers would be best so we can put all our shoes away

26 August – You will be proud of me – I haven’t done a morning walk for MONTHS and today I got my butt into gear. And what do you know, I really enjoyed it. Don’t know if it’s the placebo effect but I definitely felt in a better headspace today.

27 August – Popped out for a business lunch.

28 August – Decided I needed a haircut but clearly didn’t give very good directions to the hair dresser as it ended up much shorter than I was expecting. Afterwards I had a meeting with another local business owner. Some trivia for you – I used to work with her father-in-law when I first got married, and met her husband when he was just a toddler!

Catching up with the lovely Courtney from Court and Co Bookkeeping – oh and see how short my hair is!

29 August – Specialist appointment, this time to get the results from all the tests I’ve been having. You’ll be happy to know I had a good report.

30 August – Hooray for Friday.

31 August – While I spent the day in a Style and Image workshop (which I am longing to share with you, blog post to come), the husbear visited his folks in Toowoomba.

And that’s it, another busy month! Both the husbear and I are struggling to keep up with our work commitments at the moment, I’ve had a lot of health appointments, and in our “spare” time we are trying to get a few things done around the house (in mid-September it will be a year since we bought it!).

All that, plus we are trying to keep up with family and friends, keep the house (sort of) tidy, and make time for each other … just life, really!

What tidbit did you find the most interesting in this month’s report?!
