So how did the days of December 2019 unfold for this Middle Aged Mama? I’m so glad you asked!
Not surprisingly, there was a heavy focus on Christmas …
December – The husbear and I visited a couple of local display homes for inspiration … which was sadly lacking, everything seemed very bland. Or is it just me?
December – I attended a workshop and did some solid business planning ready for 2020; when the husbear got home from work he put Christmas lights up on the cat patio, and along the back fence.
December – Invoicing day, I’ve started using Quickbooks and while I can see it will save me loads of time down the track, at the moment it’s a bit slow while I adjust.
December – Today I was surprised to receive an email saying that my business had been nominated for an award – I was a bit suss at first but tracked down a couple of previous winners and it all seems legit!
December – Business mastermind meeting. This pic was taken in the carpark at the venue – I love all the poincianas in bloom at moment, being bright red they look very festive!
December – Christmas drinks with the Redland Women in Business network; I’ve been attending sporadically over the last 6 years or so and have gotten to know many people, yet I am always surprised at how many new faces I encounter at these events! (Can you spot me in the pic below? Hint: I’m one of the two women wearing a Santa hat and am near the middle …)
December – A stinking hot Saturday, best spent in the air conditioning, though I did go to the library to get some more books – I love to read.
December – We went to a posh hotel near the city for a 30th wedding anniversary party for some friends. There’s not too many marriages that go the distance these days, so worth celebrating for sure!
December – I had the first uncomfortable signs of a bladder infection, so upped my water intake and had a heat pack on my tummy when I went to bed.
December – Today my niece graduated from uni with a double degree in Engineering and Business. As they’ve recently adopted a dog who is quite nervous (has obviously been mistreated in the past) I was asked to dog sit, luckily Willow seems to love her Aunty Yaya!
December – The husbear had to take my car to work as one of his tyres had a puncture – I swear this is about the fourth time this year! I called roadside assistance but unfortunately it couldn’t be fixed.
In the afternoon I caught the bus to my opthalmologist appointment and just as well I did, as I was in no state to drive after another eye injection.
December – I was excited to see the cutting from my indoor plant had a new leaf! Miss 23 and I took cuttings around the same time, mine now has 5 leaves, hers has about a dozen so we are just a bit competitive LOL. Here’s my plant … and hers is in the pic below. Her kitchen bench gets more sunlight than mine, so that must be why!
December – That bladder infection was still hanging around, so off to the doctors for some antibiotics.
December – Finished my latest jigsaw puzzle.
December – My dad and stepmum came over for afternoon tea. I’ll let you in on a little secret – the husbear always gets super motivated to tidy things up and finish house projects when we are having visitors, I used to find it annoying but now I just appreciate the benefits!
December – Fleur was looking very proud of herself, she caught a lizard out on the cat patio; in other news, I made a roast lamb for dinner, although it felt weird making it for just the two of us.
December – The kids came over for dinner (we got KFC) and we played lots of ping pong.
December – I had a dentist checkup, and did a bit of shopping afterwards – including this cute top from Suzanne Grae!
December – I popped into a client’s office, I haven’t been for several months and the staff didn’t recognise me at first – said I was looking heaps younger! I’m not sure why they thought that – maybe the change in hair colour (from blonde to more of a copper/caramel) or dazzling new smile, LOL? Or maybe it was the outfit?
December – My last official day at work for 2019 (but let’s be honest, I’ll still have to check my emails etc over the break).
December – The husbear and I finally ventured into the city to check out the Christmas lights, only to find the Enchanted Garden in Roma Street Parklands had finished the week before, WHAT THE! Wouldn’t you think it would be open right up til Christmas? We ended up chatting to about three other couples/families who were disappointed as well!
December – We went shopping at Ikea with Miss 23 and her fiance; where we made a new friend (see below, he said his name was Harvey), and even ordered a new couch to be delivered next month.
December – We did a grocery shop in the evening, and my goodness, it was like the locusts had been – lots of bare shelves! I couldn’t find dessicated coconut anywhere, ended up getting flaked coconut instead for my apricot balls and other Christmas goodies. (I’m glad I did – it was more expensive but tasted amazing, much nicer than usual.)
December – Christmas cooking – roast lamb, a brown rice salad, carrot salad, apricot balls, and mini Christmas chocolate puddings. In the evening we wrapped pressies while watching Home Alone on TV; we even had a storm roll in with some much-needed rain, though it didn’t last long.
December – The husbear gave me a Fitbit which I have been coveting for about a year now! We drove 2 hours to have Christmas lunch with the husbear’s family, didn’t get back until about 9pm so it was a huge day. Oh, and we were pretty impressed with this bottle of Coke which my sister-in-law brought!
December – Christmas Round 2 – our kids came over for lunch (glazed ham and potato bake, nom nom nom) – and we exchanged presents.
December – I started the lovely new kitties puzzle which Miss 23 and her man gave me for Christmas.
December – We had some friends stay overnight, the kids all ended up dropping in and we played poker til late.
December – Christmas Round 3 – a get together with my side of the family at my dad’s boat club.
December – Now we can relax and enjoy some downtime! We put Fleur on her lead and took her for a walk in the garden, which she loved. The grass is finally starting to take hold.
December – We never really do anything for New Year’s Eve, and this year was no different! Although we did stay up til midnight, as we have a great view of the local fireworks display from our back deck.
And on that note I will love you and leave you; now we are in a brand new year and no more time for slacking off, LOL! How many Christmases did you celebrate – was it three like we had?!
