A Sentence A Day – May 2019

LMBDW Bayside group

May is always a month of celebrations in the Middle Aged Mama household, as it includes our wedding anniversary, our son’s birthday, my dad’s birthday, and Mother’s Day.

Still, it would be even busier if I lived in the northern hemisphere like my new bloggy friend Sally Flint – with graduations and end of school year events as well!

The husbear has also taken some much-needed time off from work this month, and is gradually making progress on various projects around the house. However it’s been business as usual for me (just with the added distraction of hubby wanting me to stop and join him for frequent cups of tea, LOL).

May – My lovely husbear gave me a peony scented candle for my birthday back in January, but it’s taken me til now to light it – and I looove it! Such a lovely fragrance.

May – Don’t fall over but I baked a cake – a date and apricot loaf to be precise.

May – Received a lovely package in the mail from the lovely people at Vivid (pic below); meanwhile, I mailed a not-so-lovely package – my bowel scan test (no pic, because ewww). Oh the joys of being 50+!

May – A little bit of Saturday op shopping …

May – Our 29th wedding anniversary, so the husbear and I went to the one-and-only drive-in that still exists in Brisbane. We snuggled up in the back of our station wagon and watched the rom com, “Long Shot”, starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen.

May – Labour Day public holiday here in Queensland but I still had some work to do, my boss (me!) is mean that way LOL – then dinner at Miss 22’s house.

May – Fleur would like to announce that she has a new hidey-hole – under the armchairs on the deck.

May – Good news – my bowel scan results are in and I’ve got the all clear!

May – Had the most relaxing facial EVER – thanks to my friend Jean at Jaibe Beauty.

May – We sold our boat at long long last (pic below taken approx 2010). Despite numerous attempts to fix the outboard, it hasn’t worked for years. The new owner is happy – he just happens to be a boat mechanic!

May – A bit of housework (it is Saturday after all) followed by a nanna nap. In the evening we watched a couple of movies on Netflix, “The Basement” (thriller/horror) for him and it was one of the most horrific films I’ve ever seen so I ended up playing on my phone; then “Isn’t it Romantic?” starring Rebel Wilson afterwards so I wouldn’t have nightmares LOL.

May – A double celebration – not only was it Mother’s Day, but it was also the 25th anniversary of the day I became a Mum (happy birthday Mr 25!). The kids came over for lunch and we opened presents and tucked into a home-made Thai feast out on the deck.

May – Finally feel like I’m starting to get on top of my work … but it’s a double-edged sword, because I’m starting to panic that it will all dry up!

May – There’s nothing on telly lately so we watched a lovely fantasy movie called “Winter’s Tale” on Netflix.

May – A trip to the doctor, where I had a flu shot.

May – I had a flu shot last year and barely noticed it. A different story this year … I felt really off-colour all day, and barely slept because my arm (where I’d had the injection) was so sore, and underneath both arms was swollen. Yuk.

May – We’ve had no furniture in our bedroom (apart from the bed) since we moved in, because we were determined to replace our old suite (which has been languishing in the garage since the other house sold). But we still haven’t found anything we particularly like so …. we’ve given up temporarily, and have moved our old furniture upstairs. It actually doesn’t look too bad apart from the couple of missing handles, and it is a joy to have drawers and a dressing table with mirror again!!!

May – A BBQ out on the deck with friends.

May – After all the the socialising yesterday, I was worn out so enjoyed a Sunday afternoon nanna nap with Fleur.

May – There are some scrubby trees right up against our back fence where we will shortly be building a retaining wall so they were cut down today.

May – Wrote some web content today about anxiety disorders. Did a quiz online and it seems I might have a touch of anxiety myself … but when I think of some of the stuff that’s been going on in the background of our lives, can’t say I’m surprised …

May – I love learning new things, don’t you? We were listening to some music and I wondered out loud what instrument was being used and the husbear said it was a “theremin”. Ah what-what?! I’d never heard of it, but apparently it’s an electronic instrument which you play without even touching it. If you’ve never heard of it either – Google it!

May – Caught up with my local LMBDW group after dinner. LMBDW stands for Like Minded Bitches Drinking Wine, and I hate the name – in fact it put me off going for years – but it turns out I love the group!

May – Miss 22 and her man moved into a new unit – the place they were living in has been on the market since before Christmas, and they were fed up with the endless inspections and hassle from real-estate agents. It looks like the grandkitties approve of their new home!

May – Spent a relaxing afternoon on the deck with my parents, catching up over a wine and cheese board.

May – Occasionally we let Mr 25’s cat, Seth, out to play in the yard … and somehow he ended up on top of the roof above the back deck where he became quite distressed and miaowed to be rescued! I don’t think he’ll be doing that again in a hurry.

May – Monday AND a trip to the dentist – yuk! Seriously though, it was worth it as I got some cosmetic dentistry done to brighten my smile. Would you like me to write a blog post about my experience of dental bonding?!

May – You know how I was panicking about work drying up, earlier this month? I really shouldn’t worry so much … two new jobs came in today alone, yay!

May – I have a new favourite TV show, “Escape to the Chateau”, about an English couple doing up an old run-down chateau in rural France which they have turned into a B&B and wedding venue. This is about the 4th episode I’ve watched.

May – It’s Small Business Week in Queensland so it was fitting that I headed out to a business conference in the city. It was hard to take time away from work but as I heard somewhere recently, “It’s not a matter of being too busy to network; it’s a matter of being too busy NOT to network!”

May – Some sad news today, my father-in-law has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.

If I had to describe May in just one sentence, it would be this: “Life sure has its ups and downs”.

Can you tell me about what May 2019 looked like for you, in just one sentence in the comments below? (Though you’re welcome to write more if you want!)
