One of my favourite columns in New Idea magazine is Mere Male; it often makes me chuckle.
Turns out I’ve got a couple of my my own Mere Males living in my house …
As you can see in the photos above, the hubster makes me laugh everyday. He has a very dry sense of humour 😉 .
Lunch Leftover
Hubster is the designated lunch maker in our family. Sadly, we had a problem in my office with lunches being stolen from the fridge – although I was one of the lucky ones. But when I told hubster, he was most offended that “his” lunches obviously didn’t make the grade with the thief!
Mincing His Words
After a lengthy family gathering at Sizzler, my teenage son was keen to head home to his beloved computer games. “Not yet,” the hubster told him. “We’re just waiting for them to bring out some mints.”
Looking puzzled, our son asked, “What on earth do you want that for? We’ve already eaten!”
He thought the hubster had said “mince” not “mints”!
Crumbs!
Hubster was watching TV and snacking on some potato chips when I noticed he’d dropped crumbs on his shirt.
Being a caring and devoted wife, I reached out to brush them off, telling him, “You have a chip on your shoulder”.
For some funny reason he took offense at this, until he realised all I’d meant was that he’d made a mess with his snack …
What have the Mere Males in your family done to make you smile or chuckle lately?

My ‘mere male’ often makes me laugh, sometimes at silly things. On Australia Day we listened to a radio show about Aussie slang words that listeners thought should make a come back. Follow his suggestion that the word ‘drongo’ should come back, he started using it all the time. I get a laugh when he says it and it’s much better than ‘stupid idiot’!
