Are Brooches Back in Style?

I currently own just one brooch, so I’m in trouble if I do find out that brooches are indeed back in style!

I bought this handmade felt flower brooch in Christchurch, New Zealand, when we were there for a friend’s wedding in 2013, as a special souvenir.

But that’s the extent of my brooch collection at the moment (scarves on the other hand … ) . Surely brooches must be just about due to have a revival?!

In the meantime, I have many fond memories from the days when brooches were big back in the late 70’s and into the 80’s …

When Brooches were Big

I was totally stoked in 1980, to win an owl stickpin much like this one, in a competition in Dolly magazine 🙂 .

As for this next brooch – I’m embarrassed to admit, I had a bottle green Playboy bunny brooch and thought it was great. In my defense, I was about 12 and had no idea what the Playboy bunny actually stood for …

Pretty sure I had a palm tree brooch made of mother of pearl, just like this pineapple one. I seem to remember my grandma gave it to me as a souvenir of one of her many trips.

It must have been around 1980, that flapper girl designs were on everything from skirts to brooches.

Okay, I didn’t have a brooch like this one below but I would TOTALLY. WEAR. ONE. NOW, being a crazy cat lady and all 😉 .

A plastic, gaudy, palm tree. Yup, it screams the 80’s.

I had one of these bicycle brooches!

I love the story of how I got it … I used to whinge so much about having a January birthday, that one year my friends secretly decided to surprise me by celebrating it on 1st April, at school, instead. Not sure if there is any significance attached to the fact that they chose April Fool’s Day …

Anyways, they brought this ENORMOUS gift wrapped box to school, for me to open. Under all the wrappings and about a ton of newspaper, I found my present – this bicycle brooch 😉 .

Do you remember any of these – and do you think it must be about time brooches came back in style?!
