OR … A Case of Mistaken Identities
I like to think I’m a friendly person. Maybe too friendly …
Blogger Bloopers #1

So back in May I hosted the inaugural Redland Bloggers Meetup. I tried to make a point of being the “hostess with the mostess”, mingling and chatting with as many people as I could, and enthusiastically greeting each new person that rocked up.
I had my little spiel down pat: “Hi, I’m Janet … Name and Blog please!” with a big cheesy welcoming smile on my face – great conversation starter huh?!
Until the lady clutching a smartphone, with her little one in a pram, looked at me blankly. “Um, wrong group, I think,” she muttered before sidling away from me to join a mummies group meeting on the other side of the cafe (which I hadn’t noticed before, being so absorbed with our own little get-together).
Ooops!
Blogger Bloopers #2

Was it really just last week that I went to the Wenatex Bloggers Brunch? Time flies when you’re having fun!
The hubster was astonished to meet another blogger (we ARE a rare breed after all) at a course he went on recently – and of course Anne-Maree connected on social media straight away, and were thrilled to realise that we would both be going to the Bloggers Brunch.
So when a lovely smiley lady wearing a name tag saying “Anne-Maree” bustled up to me that morning, I gave her a very enthusiastic greeting (I can’t remember for sure but I think I might even have hugged her!), saying something along the lines of “Anne-Maree! It’s so great to finally meet you!”
Of course she looked at me blankly so I quickly explained: “I’m Janet, Lawrence’s wife. You know … from the course you did”

Still just a look of confusion.
And then I looked at her name tag more carefully and saw that it read she was FROM Wenatex … and not Anne Maree from The House that A-M Built … yep. I’d done it again!
Thankfully, Wenatex Anne Maree and I had a good chuckle over my case of mistaken identity.
Perhaps I was just a little less enthusiastic when I did actually meet the REAL Anne Maree, after embarassing myself like this? Nah. Probably not – I’m kinda shameless that way 🙂
Please tell me I’m not alone in mistaking identities and make a total fool of myself!
Hilarious. This happens to me all the time, probably because I am outrageously vague and am terrible with people’s names. I think that’s why I like hanging out with bloggers because on the whole they’re a friendly and very forgiving bunch.
And thank goodness for that 😉
It’s lovely meeting fellow bloggers isn’t it? Sounds like you’ve had a fabulous time with the ones near you.
Wish I could do it every week!
I have too many I could possibly start a second blog or do an ebook and I’ve only been blogging for 9 months.
LOL glad to know I’m in such great company 🙂
You can never be upset with people who are enthusiastic to meet new people. It speaks volumes about you generous personality
OH thank you so much Katyberry. Now I feel MUCH better!
oh, no your not the only one! But it is rather funny!
I’m just so enthusiastic it makes that awkward moment even worse …
I have never been to any blogger meet ups, but I imagine I too would be like this – which is probably why Ive been too scared to attend any in the first place. My problem at the moment is I run into people who I do know, but haven’t see for a while and I have no idea who they are. I am blaming baby brain.
Toni, get thee to a blogger meetup pronto! The bloggers I’ve met are all lovely 🙂
I do it ALL the time – I once told Christie from Childhood 101 that we hadn’t met before – um, yes she said, we have.
Oops! Glad I’m not the only one 😉
So glad I’m not the only one – one time I decided to sneak up on mu husband while we were at the shops, I tiptoed up behind him, grabbed his butt and said “Hello, Sexy Man!”
You guessed it. It wasn’t my husband. I could not apologise enough to the poor bewildered stranger, and would have given anything for an asteroid to hit the shopping centre right at that moment.
My hubby did the same thing to a woman in a little gift shop, he was in a hurry to leave. I couldn’t stop laughing.
Bet he scared the life out of her!
Oh that’s hilarious! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I wave to people passing in their cars, quite often it isn’t who I think it is and feel like a bit of a douche!
LOL I’ve done that too
So funny 🙂
I’ve never been to a blogger meet up – sounds wonderful X
Ya just gotta Bek – so much fun!
Janet, this is me all over!! You’re such a giggle, and a good hugger xx
NAwww thanks Lisa – I love hugs!
Oh, I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve mistaken someone’s identity! Such an embarrassment!
Looks like you had a great time, though! Yay for blog meet ups!
Maybe we need glasses?!
Oh lord if I haven’t embarrassed myself that way it’s been in myriad other ways. Good on you for dusting yourself off so well 🙂
I’m feeling that I’m amongst good company, so glad I shared this 🙂
Yep, it when you do the wave from afar, and the person is walking towards you, all confused like….and then they get to you and there’s that awkward –
Sorry, I thought you were someone else.
Doh.
I also have a habit of recognising people even though it’s been YEARS, and trying to say hello – only to find they either don’t recognise me (I haven’t changed that much!) or don’t remember me :-
Hahaha – this did make me chuckle!! I’ve only been to one blogging event but I’m pretty sure I’d be right up there with the blogging bloopers given half the chance xx #FYBF
I always make a goose out of myself, I think it’s way better to be over friendly than not! xx
Yes I agree, if people are offended by enthusiasm, then that’s their problem!
