With the air conditioning in my car AND also our family living areas on the blink this summer, I was *very* interested in reviewing the new Chilly Towel.
It’s a great way keep cool at home, or out and about, as it is:
- eco-friendly (no electricity required!);
- portable; and
- easy to use.
Simply wet, wring, and shake. It should be dry to touch; it if isn’t, you haven’t wrung it out enough.
I did offer the blue one to Mr 22 as he works part time in the kitchen of a fast food restaurant, where the thermometer regularly tops 45 degrees. However he thought he would “look weird” … maybe it’s because I’m middle aged, but personally, I’d rather be comfortable. As I told him, it’s not like anybody really sees you out the back!
So I gave the second Chilly Towel to my sister, as her new place doesn’t have air con. She had taken to wearing a wet tea towel around her shoulders when she was watching TV, in a bid to keep cool. However, it meant she couldn’t lean against the couch because it would leave a big damp patch – plus, her hair and top were always wet!
I have a feeling my sister had best keep an eye on it though … as her daughter was quite taken with it too. She had just returned from 5 days of camping – a little early I might add – because surviving the heatwave conditions was proving too much of a challenge!
So what does a Chilly Towel look like?
My first thought upon pulling it out of the plastic cylinder, was that it reminded me of the chamois I use to wash my car (or would use – if I could be bothered – let’s be honest π ).
If you’ve struggled to sleep on those hot summer nights, covering yourself with a Chilly Towel will make a big difference. In the past I’ve dampened a sarong and used that as a top sheet – with the fan on. However it always dried out too quickly to be of any real comfort.
The bonus is that the Chilly Towel won’t feel wet, or saturate your bedding – mouldy sheets and mattress – no thanks!
Different Uses for the Chilly Towel
I couldn’t help imagining how handy it would be to:
- apply to a fevered brow;
- relieve the hot flushes of menopause;
- cool down after a workout at the gym;
- wrap around your shoulders when spectating at an outdoor event eg the tennis – sun protection AND cooling in one.
I wore it around my shoulders when I had to drive for over an hour in a car without air conditioning on a real stinker of a day; and I’mΒ told it also provides great relief from the overheating that can be a common side effect of chemotherapy.
I wonder if it would be useful to keep babies cool, used like a blanket in their cots?
As you can see, even my cat liked it!
Have you ever heard of a Chilly Towel before?! Must confess – I hadn’t!

I haven’t heard of these before but not having air conditioning in our home I need to find one of these pronto for the next hot day!
It will also be fantastic to cool me down when I’m watching the kids doing their athletics on hot days.

You’d love it Ingrid. Not quite as good as AC but better than nothing!
Amy @ handbagmafia says
What a great idea! Will definitely check them out as my husband’s office gets super hot and the aircon they have doesn’t cut it- it’s still 35 inside when it’s 38 out!
Janet Camilleri says
Yuk that sounds horrible!
Kat says
Now that’s something a bit different, and interesting. I side with you though, if I were working in a fast food kitchen, I’d definitely be wearing that towel! #lovinlife
Janet Camilleri says
Yeah kids are funny that way! π

I think I need one of these now! Summer has been way too hot and way too long. I’m praying it will be over soon. π #TeamLovinLife

Great idea. I reckon Kali Adb=venture Spaniel would love it as much as your cat does.

I picked up something similar at the International Women’s Day Run sold by Mater Chicks in PInk. They are really useful and my husband suffers with the heat so I bought him a pretty pink one! I don’t think it has as many uses as you described as it was geared mainly for exercising. I’ll check this out! Thanks!
Janet Camilleri says
I feel the heat a lot more now I’m older so anything that helps cool me down is very welcome!
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
This is so handy – my pugs would love this in summer!

How spoiled are our pets?! π

I love it as a cat cooler (what more could they ask for on a hot day?) and it might come in handy when there’s a hot flush working it’s way to the surface.
Janet Camilleri says
Seth really feels the heat – he comes from Tasmania originally – so no wonder he likes it!
Jo says
This looks like a great idea. I wouldn’t mind sleeping with it as it’s so hot in Perth at the moment π #teamlovinlife

I haven’t heard of the Chilly Towel Janet, but it sounds and looks like a fabuous idea for our stinking hot summer days! π #TeamLovinLife
Janet Camilleri says
Yep I’d rather cold weather for sure. It’s easier to warm up than cool down. In fact just today hubster emailed and asked if I wanted to move to Canberra?!!!!
Cat @ life through the haze says
I need to get my hands on one of these!!! They sound fantastic.
Janet Camilleri says
It’s so much like a chamois, I wonder if a chamois would do the same thing?!
Leanne @ Deep Fried Fruit says
Never heard of it! Now I have. That might be worth us buying for our upcoming trip to Thailand. I think the humidity in July may just kill me. Does it work OK in the humidity?
#TeamLovinLife
Janet Camilleri says
It actually does Leanne, though I find it best with a fan blowing on as well.
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid says
My trainer gave me something very similar a few years ago at Christmas and I only just opened it a few weeks ago! I love it!
Janet Camilleri says
Bet you’re sorry you didn’t open it earlier now Sam π
