Comfy yet stylish shoes?
No – it’s not an oxymoron!
There seems to be a bit of a myth circulating out there, that choosing to wear comfortable shoes means that you’ve given up on looking fashionable, and on trend.
I’m here to tell you that it isn’t so.
I’ve chosen five pairs of shoes from the new Ziera winter range, and indulged my creativity on Polyvore to come up with some great outfits. I would happily wear any of these, confident that I would feel comfortable AND stylish!
A Trip to the Movies
Does anybody else feel that they have stumbled into the Antarctic whenever they go to the movies? No matter how warm or sunny it is outside, it’s well below zero in the cinema.
Well okay, maybe I’m exaggerating just a wee bit … this outfit features a lovely warm shawl for you to snuggle into while you watch your movie, and is both casual and colourful.
What’s more, wearing these nude mary janes would mean that your feet would be happy to check out the mall or go for a moonlit stroll afterwards, should the mood strike …
A Day at the Office
Choosing the right outfit for the office can be tricky at any time of year. Again, that lovely air conditioning – so you don’t know if it will be cool, or the heating will be like a furnace. Not to mention the joys of middle age (ie hot flushes). Layers are definitely the way to go.
So I’ve chosen a floral print pencil skirt and plain tank top, and dressed it up with a draped cardigan and stylish heels and other accessories.
Lunch with Friends
Alas, the weather is still not cool enough here in Bris-Vegas to warrant a beautiful snuggly sweater like this one, but I can dream!
Leather is one of the strongest fashion statements of Winter 2014, and I love all the different shades of plum. The heel on the shoes is snappy but not too high, and just the thing to show off your legs, though as I look at all the different looks I’ve put together for this post, any of the shoes I’ve featured would go with this outfit a treat!
A Special Occasion
Not quite sure where I would wear this outfit – a movie premiere, a wedding or the opera, perhaps? A girl can dream đŸ˜‰ !
Shopping
Whether it’s the grocery run, a few errands, or a bit of retail therapy, here’s a look that features two great basics – black leggings and a chambray shirt.
For colour, add a leopard print scarf (you really can’t go past leopard for style, and I love the bright hues in this print) and a statement ring. The boots really add a touch of class as well as comfort – so you’ll be able to shop all day!
Blisters and/or going barefoot by the end of a big night out is NEVER a good look. As the lovely lady in this video says, stylish shoes make you feel better – all the way up!
Have I managed to convince you that being comfortable doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fashion and style? And which one is your favourite look?

Really like those riding boots. Wish I was in a colder climate so I could wear them!
I hear you Kathy. My winter gear is languishing in my wardrobe as the temperature consistently sits on 25 degrees each day!
Lunch with friends is probably my favourite look but I love all of them. I’ve been eyeing off homy peds purely for the comfort factor but just couldn’t go there for the style factor. I think you may have found a pretty impressive alternative.
I have never looked at Ziera shoes and am very impressed, will be taking a closer look xxx
Great post Janet. I loved all the looks except the skirt in the special occasion photo. It would accentuate my hips too much.
I’m not sure if I could pull it off either to be honest Pinky – I have a thick waist, typical of an apple figure. But I love the look of it!
I FREEZE in the Cinemas. I have to rug up and I look like I’m heading to the snow :). I love the featured in the lunch with friends. I’d definitely wear them. Rachel xx
Love this post, Janet. I do agree it’s always freezing at the movies so I always take along a pashmina … that way I can either wrap it over my shoulders or throw it over my legs!
