I’ve been searching Pinterest lately for inspiration on what to do with our entry and hallway.
There’s no real entry, you just come straight into a long, bland, boring hallway.
To top it off, it’s just become a gathering point for shoes. NOT an attractive welcome to our home as far as I’m concerned!
Here are some of the pics that inspired me into a bit of a mini makeover … you can find them, with links to their original websites, on my Pinterest board “For the Home“. (By the way, I’m sure there’s a way I can embed the pics here so that when you click on the image, it takes you straight to Pinterest – but I have no idea how to do it – would welcome your advice!)
It could be worse – it could have been as narrow as this Japanese hallway:
It was time to make some changes! So instead of this:
Visitors to my home are now greeted by this – including my smiling face, instead of me scowling as I try to kick the shoes out of the way!
MUCH better!
What is YOUR entry area / hallway like?!

oh I totally need that shoe rack by our front door – as soon as you walk in you are confronted by a gazillion shoes

I’m so glad we got ours – it was under $200 from Ikea and makes me very happy, it really seems to be working!

looks great!
we have just bought a house and the previous owner left a coat hook, mirror and side table in the entryway. It’s great! I still need to make some changes to the area to make it perfect though. That Japanese hallway is insane! can’t be real surely!
Janet says
My friend living in Japan tells me it’s entirely possible …

We come in through our garage and being the 3rd house we’ve built, we learnt our lesson and built a shoe cupboard right near that internal garage door!
Love your new entry – what does your word art say? I’m in love with word art!
Not sure what I’m doing in our entry yet – I’m going to attempt to paint an old table/stand thingy and then I’ll look for some art work to put above it. Eventually, I may add some things to walls on either side but all in good time I suppose.

It says “Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away!” Love it π

This looks great Janet! When we built, I had recessed walls put in the entry, so I have a photo gallery on each side.
Janet says
Great idea. In my next house I want a separate entry, so people don’t stare down the hall when they’re at the front door!

Oh I love Pinterest for a bit of inspiration and I just love what you have replaced with all of those shoes. Great smile too, better than smelly shoes any day! My hallway carpet is disgustingly dirty. We’ve been meaning to rip it up for ages now π
Janet says
We’ve been thinking about putting a carpet runner in but meh, who knows?!
Emily @ Have a laugh on me says
I think it might be hard to have you standing there all day J – mind you – if you know people are coming over it could easily be arranged I suppose! Bet you would win the best looking entry hallway award! xx

I’m wondering how tiny that japanese toilet is! Looking good in the hallway with you new shoe cupboard π
My hallway isn’t the widest and has a coat rack( a slab of wood with old railway sleeper nails in it) with jackets, scarves, bags and hats hanging on it. I have a wooden painted box for all our shoes, hubby still leaves his shoes all over the place :/

Gotta love Pinterest! Your hallway looks great. I am in the process of doing something with our entry way – we don’t have a hall, just a blank wall…. By the way, what do the words say above your cabinet? I love vinyl word art.
Trish says
I want those shoe racks – we have a narrow but small hallway in our ‘homestead’ work in progress.
Thanks for linking up.
Janet says
I am absolutely thrilled with how it has tidied up our hallway and entry, and everybody is actually USING them!

PS If I find the answer I’ll tell you and vice versa.
