Dishing up the Dirt

washing up and cleaning the kitchen

Have you ever heard the old joke: How do you make the dishwasher cleaner?

You make them take a shower or bath!

BOOM BOOM.

Seriously though, we’re not real great at keeping on top of the dishes in our house.

We’ve always had a dishwasher, so it was only when we travelled around Australia in our caravan in 2001 that my kids got some practical experience in actually washing and wiping up!

As long as *I* am the one doing it, the kitchen tends to stay clean and tidy (I take my hat off to my friends at Karl Support Services, who specialise in cleaning food manufacturing facilities – kitchen cleaning on an industrial scale!).

Trouble is, I’m not the only one that lives in our house –  and I don’t think it’s my job to take care of all the dishes all of the time. This is the 21st century peoples!

So there are times when I do just leave it, to give other members of the household the opportunity to show a bit of initiative 😉 (Not that our cats Fleur and Seth ever seem to get the hint!)

I mean, how hard is it with a dishwasher – just load it up and pop in some dishwasher tablets and the machine does the rest!

What usually happens instead is that it all just sits there annoying me until an unexpected visitor arrives and then it is really embarrassing, as we madly scurry to hide our sloppy housekeeping habits.

Perhaps this is why Butler’s Pantries are so popular!

Who does the kitchen cleaning in your household?!
