I’ve never really felt like I had a “signature style”, but a recent conversation with the hubster made me think differently.
It was when I was showing him my latest fashion purchase (from Rivers for just $15, perfect for summer days working from home).
Proudly I twirled in front of him, but his reaction wasn’t quite what I was after – he just looked at me, puzzled.
“Don’t you already have one that looks just like that?!”
It’s not the first time he’s said it either!
Seems I’ve developed a bit of a summer signature style (and let’s face it, here in Queensland summer last about 9 months of the year LOL) without even realising it.
As I looked back over my “everyday style” outfit photos (which I often share on the Middle Aged Mama Instagram and/or Facebook page) … I noticed that my new dress does look quite a bit like a couple that are already in my wardrobe:
They are all different styles, fabrics and prints, and were bought from different stores at different times. And yet …
- they are all in shades of blue and/or green; and
- there’s a bit of a palm leaf print going on.
I guess I can see why he thinks he is seeing double!
When it comes to summer dressing, I’m a BIG fan of dresses.
Just look at these three – all loose, flowy, casual, and coral. Now coral is not only one of my fave colours, but it is also flattering to most complexions as I discovered when I read the book about getting your colours done.

But the similar styles didn’t stop there! It seems I’m a fan of turquoise dresses as well …
I knew I liked floral prints, but it seems I particularly like roses …
And, I just can’t go past navy!
I guess it shows that I have developed my own “look” or signature style over the years, because I’m definitely drawn to certain colours and designs.
If there’s one advantage of middle age (and personally I think there are plenty!) – it’s being able to pick out what suits you from the current season’s offerings – saves a lot of time and money when you think about it!
What’s your summer signature style?

Hasn’t it been hot in Brisbane? !! I have one favourite dress I basically live in when it’s really hot.
I love the third coral dress you’re wearing with the 3/4 sleeves, by the way : )
I go for strong, vibrant colours and patterns. (Strong blues, greens, reds …) and clean, crisp whites. And cool, breathable fabrics (especially in summer, I can’t even imagine any other season right now !!)
I have about 4 that are on constant rotation when it’s this hot. I love that coral dress too, just not sure where to wear it though apart from the pool!
PS Black features a fair bit, as part of a pattern, or with a patterned top or skirt
I wear a lot more black in the cooler months 🙂
