Dressing a Short Fuller Figure

A reader recently left the following comment on my blog:

My fashion sense is in a permanent state of meh. I bought a couple of new things when I lost weight and now can’t fit into them … can’t find anything I like so why bother. The shops just don’t cater for short 48 year olds with ‘fuller figures’.

I was inspired to see if I could put together a few looks … because as it happens, I know this reader quite well. I know that she works as a high school teacher, and that she likes bright colours and patterns and doesn’t mind a bit of boho too.

So with all that in mind, here are some looks I put together – stylish options, for dressing a short fuller figure!

Simple Summer Frocks

Regular readers would know, I’m a big fan of a simple summer frock. Here are three which I think will flatter a short fuller figure. There’s something for work, something for play, and something dressy …

It’s possible however that both of the dresses on the left would benefit from being taken up a few centimetres once you got them home …

Teacher Style

This outfit has a bit of a retro feel. It’s bright, and I love the dotty skirt (and I have long said this particular person is a bit dotty!). I teamed it with a heart brooch – brooches are coming back, and unlike a necklace or bracelet, it’s not hot and annoying to wear when the humidity is high.

Jewel tones are great throughout the year. The outfit below can transition from Summer to Winter, with the addition of a jacket. Although our reader likes bright colours, I chose grey as it’s going to be big this season, and as a neutral she will be able to throw it on with just about anything, plain or patterned.

And here’s another summery fresh outfit with a peasant skirt:

Parent Teacher Interviews

This outfit ticks all the boxes: bright colours, no iron fabrics, comfortable – yet sure to impress at the parent-teacher interviews!

Weekend Style

Although I don’t own a pair of printed pants myself, I could SO see them on this reader – great casual wear. The bonus is, you can change the look simply by changing the colour of the top. And see how well the grey drapey jacket ties in, should the weather turn cool?

The good news is: most of the clothing items (sorry, not the jewellery and shoes) have been sourced from current collections at Australian stores, like Millers, City Chic, Crossroads and TS Virtu 14+. For details of a particular item, click on the image and follow the links to purchase online – or head out to the shops and grab them quick!

Do you have any tips for dressing a short fuller figure – and which of the outfits above would you wear?
