I Must Confess: I have totally pinched this idea from Beth over at Almost Posh (with her permission of course!) – and will be reporting on my monthly spend on my wardrobe, throughout 2016.
Supposedly, on average each Australian woman spends $834 per year on clothing purchases.
If I were to take a wild guess at my current spending habits, I would pick a figure of $1000 per year. So let’s find out just how accurate I am, as I track my spending and bringing you a monthly “fashionomics report”!
Fashionomics Report: January
A quick hunt through my wardrobe, and I found the following purchases which I am pretty sure were all made during January (or the very last week of December, maybe, so close enough) …
Off the Shoulder Dress, $29.95. Pretty sure the original price was $49.95.
“Nightshirt” Dress (at least, that’s what the hubster calls it. Pffft, what do men know about fashion!). Was $39.95; reduced to $29.95.
Silky top, was $29.95, bought for $14.95. While not something I will wear during the heat of summer, I am sure this will become a firm favourite and a great layering piece for the cooler months.
All of the above are from Katies – throughout the month I popped in regularly, as I had a $100 gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Even though technically these purchases didn’t cost me anything, I would most likely still have bought them even if I did have to hand over actual cash π .
Caroline Morgan spliced dress, was $59.95, paid $30.
I really don’t need any more dressy items in my wardrobe, but when I saw this dress at Trade Secrets reduced to half price, I couldn’t resist trying it on – and the hubster loved it, so it had to come home with me!
Sundress from Rivers, $12 was $30 (I think)
I’ve mentioned this sundress before, and how I tried it on in a pale print that unfortunately emphasised my pot belly – but this darker palm leaf print miraculously disguises it. Guaranteed I will get a lot of wear out of this dress!
January summary
Items bought: 5
Total original ticket “value”: approx $191.85
Paid: $104.85
YTD Spend: $116.85
How much do you think you would spend per year on clothes?!

Nice purchases, Janet. I’m particularly fond of the Caroline Morgan number. Really suits you. Will be interesting to see what the yearly tally is. Mine would probably be a bit under average. I only shop at K-Mart or Millers. Yep, keeping it classy! LOL
Janet Camilleri says
Hey don’t knock ’em, I love both Kmart and Millers!!!
Beth | AlmostPosh.com says
Nice buys! I will have to get down to Rivers soon, I haven’t been there for ages.
Janet Camilleri says
I love checking out their sales π
Zita says
Oh wow, I would be scared to think about how much I have spent each year on clothes! I am getting much better though as I prioritize what really matters! But I do love a good sale and I did buy that same silky top from Katies in the sales as well! Great taste! hehe
Janet Camilleri says
Wonderful taste indeed Zita!!!!
Natalie @ our parallel connection says
No way I’m not doing this. I’m scared of what I will find
Janet Camilleri says
LOL I’m a bit nervous too, to tell the truth. And let’s hope the hubster never stumbles across these posts or the game will be up!
Vicki says
Haha, love that you’re totally up your spending, and love that you’ve used my word from 2015 for it – Fashionomics! I’m trying not to spend anything at all at the moment, but of course that never worksβ¦.x
Janet Camilleri says
Ah is that where I got the word from – it just “came” to me when I was trying to think of a title for this post π
Pinky Poinker says
You know, I really have no idea. I go for months without buying anything then I have a splurge. I probably spend about the same as you. I mainly buy clothes when people give me gift vouchers and I always ask for Myers gift cards because they have great sales and middle-aged stuff. You look gorgeous as usual darl xxx P.S. I’m moving south very soon! We must catch up!
Janet Camilleri says
Woohoo I’m looking forward to catching up with you Ms Pinky!
Eva @ The Multitasking Woman says
Well now you’ve really made me think! I don’t spent a lot on clothes, but if I were to put it in a round figure, I’d say about $800..including shoes. I would love to be able to spend more though, but the budget just does not allow.
I love the outfits and how much of a bargain you got!
Janet Camilleri says
There is nothing I love more than to bag me a bargain. It’s pretty rare that I’ll pay full price!
Tegan says
That Caroline Morgan dress is gorgeous and such an awesome bargain too! I have no idea what I would spend in a year. I managed to score 3 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and a jumper for $48 today from Kmart though!
Vanessa says
I love Kmart clothing most of the time now. They really picked up their game. Though I think their quality reliability has slipped a little.
Janet Camilleri says
What an awesome haul! Miss 19 and I both love Kmart π so different to when I was young and it was just NOT the done thing to admit you shopped there!
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
I don’t spend a lot on clothes at all – i tend to buy cheap items on special and most of my wardrobe is a few years old. My sole spend so far this year is a $15 sun dress from Aldi. I will have to start checking my spending too, just to get a feel for it. Great bargains BTW!
Janet Camilleri says
I rarely pay full price for my clothes Kirsty, and love to go op shopping. It helps lessen the expense of my little fashion addiction π
Vanessa says
Hmm, this is interesting. I have no idea what I spend on clothes. Probably nothing some months, then I go ultra bargain and get a ton of on sale pants and singlets for like $70. I don’t actively budget for it because I don’t like clothes shopping!
Janet Camilleri says
We don’t actively budget for it either, luckily the hubster (after many years’ training) understands my little fashion addiction. He likes to buy the odd big ticket item and always wants to buy me something equivalent, I’ve taught him that as long as I can buy clothes whenever I feel the need, that makes me happy π
Sanch @ Living my imperfect life says
I love the off the shoulder dress. This is a great idea and a good way to keep track of spending. I should do something like this. I’ll go without shopping for a while and then I’ll binge shop!
Janet Camilleri says
Yep I can be a bit like that too Sanch. I thought in February I would pull back the spending a bit but so far it’s not looking good (for my bank balance haha)!
