Flirting with Frills

flirting with frills

Is there anything more feminine than a frill, a ruffle, a flutter or a flounce?

It wasn’t always so – in years gone by, men have also been known to sport a ruffle or two.

In addition to being seen as primarily feminine, frilly fashion also has a bit of a reputation for being youthful. I know that by the time I reached my teen years, I couldn’t wait to leave all the frills and furbelows behind! (Although I did have a brief foray back into the frills around the time I was fifteen or sixteen – blown off course by the winds of fashion.)

Nautical and nice – striped dress with frill bought at Target earlier this year

While I’m still not a fan of tiered and overly ruffled frocks (they do nothing for my apple-shaped figure), now that I’m a middle aged woman I do admire a well-placed flounce – and taking stock of my summer wardrobe it seems I am indeed flirting with frills once again.

My “go to” dress for business and client meetings, this Target Collection dress has a flounce at the hemline

A quick browse at my local shopping centres and some of the online stores confirmed that this could easily become a full blown love affair!

Here are a few that I found in my favourite stores …

Katies sleeveless peplum frill dress

I have one very similar to this (see pic below) that I bought from Katies last summer … obviously it was popular if they’ve brought out a new version for Summer 18/19. And why not – a drop waist dress can be very flattering 🙂 .

Or how about a linen shift dress adorned with ruffles at the hem? Linen is one of the major fashion stories this season after all!

I’ve been a fan of florals since way back, and this halterneck number below would be perfect for after dark …

While I’m not too sure if the style of this navy dress would suit my body shape – though I’m willing to give it a try next time I’m in store – I’m loving the colour and the flutter sleeves. Who says frills and flounces are only meant for hemlines?

And if you prefer your ruffles around your neckline, you can’t go wrong with this monochrome number from Katies!

Will I find a flounce, frill, flutter or ruffle in your summer wardrobe?!
