I have a very special announcement to make.
I’ve signed up for “Frocktober” which kicks off in a little over a week!
For the uninitiated, Frocktober is more that just a challenge to wear pretty frocks in October. It’s also a fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
There are so many worthwhile causes out there, that it can be tough to decide which ones, if any, to support.
Frocktober: a worthwhile cause
I decided to get on board with #Frocktober2015 for a number of reasons:
- The idea captured my imagination. I followed some of my fave bloggers, like Tonia with an Eye, and Kimba Likes, with great interest last year;
- Together we can make a difference: I’m joining up with other bloggers, as part of #teamkimbalikes!
- As Kimba said so beautifully, “the spirit of Frocktober invokes recycling, sharing, and finding new ways to wear old frocks” – rather than going out and spending a fortune on buying new. Love it! (And it will be fun to frock up after the winter months, when I lived in jeans and leggings …).
- Ovarian cancer is known as the “silent killer” – by the time most women realise they have it, it’s usually too late. There are no obvious symptoms or tests to pick it up early enough to allow for effective treatment.
- I’m a woman, and I have ovaries (despite having had a hysterectomy) – so it felt personal.
- Then a friend’s mother passed away recently from ovarian cancer, and my decision was made. I’m participating in #Frocktober2015 in honour of Suzie’s mum.
Now I’m no stranger to rocking a frock or two – but 31? That’s gonna be a challenge as I don’t even own 31 frocks!
My #Frocktober2015 Challenge
Some people will be frocking up each Friday; or hosting a high tea or other occasion where dressing in a frock is mandatory. Personally, I have set myself the challenge of rocking a frock every day in October, and of course I will be sharing the journey with you here on the blog and on my social media channels.
You can get involved in #frocktober2015 in various ways:
- follow Frocktober on Facebook;
- sponsor me by donating here – no amount too small (or large)!;
- help spread the word by sharing this post on social media (see the share buttons below!);
- follow my frocky adventures on Bloglovin’, Facebook, or Instagram – your comments will spur me on;
- or you could even join up yourself – it’s not too late – that would be #frocktastic!
Whatever you can do – thank you! Your support means the world to me – and to women everywhere!
