My kitty and I have something in common – we have both had hysterectomies. We are hyster sisters!
Mind you, Misty recovered from her little op a hell of a lot quicker than I did. Just hours after her op we brought her home from the vet with strict instructions to make sure she didn’t over exert. Ha! She was bouncing around the house even before night fall that very same day. You just can’t keep a crazy kitty quiet!
Happy Hysterversary!
My hysterectomy was one year ago tomorrow.
I had fibroids which came with a truck load of symptoms – including severe anemia, bladder urgency, and a uterus the size of a four or five month pregnancy. I was relieved to have it diagnosed and the surgery booked, and looking forward to good health once again!
The surgery itself went well, but things went a bit haywire afterwards. Apparently I “forgot” to breathe when I was in the recovery ward, and went into respiratory arrest.
Fortunately *I* have no memory of it – the first thing I remember was waking up in ICU the next morning, gagging on the ventilator tube (my worst nightmare!). But I don’t think my family will ever forget how close they came to losing me that day!
A couple of days later I noticed the bruising on my chest, and I think that’s when it really hit me that I’d nearly died.
Recovery after that went reasonably well, although certainly nowhere as speedily as it did for Misty! Why do kitties heal up so much faster?! I was in hospital for five days, and had six weeks off work.
I kept my ovaries, so I still know when I’m cycling thanks to menstrual migraines – but otherwise all is good and I am thankful to have renewed energy and health!
One year later, it’s hard to believe I came so close to dying.
Obviously I am still on this earth for a reason and I intend to make the most of it!
What about you? Have you had a near death experience – or a hysterectomy?
It’s Friday, so I’m joining in Flog Your Blog Friday, and as my hysterectomy was a year ago, I reckon that totally counts for Flashback Friday, don’t you?!

Jeez Janet – that’s scary! Waking up with a bruised chest would have been a huge shock. I’ve mercifully dodged any near-death experiences. I’m glad it turned out – please don’t ‘forget to breathe’ again, deal? 🙂
Janet says
I promise! 😉
Me says
WOW – no, thankfully I have had neither although I wonder if menopause would have been easier or harder if I had of had a hysterectomy ?
So glad you survived – where would our blogging community without relandcityliving.com ??????
Have the best weekend !

Hi I’m so glad I didn’t go with one of those. My husband he would go through it instead.
Hey, by the way I’ve totally changed my blog again! Now has a Roaring 1920’s theme – which I love completely! I think i’ve finally got my look! What do you think?
Janet says
I’ll have to go and check it out! BTW hubster had this surgery years ago, unfortunately health reasons necessitated my hysterectomy last year as well.
Judy @Australian Inspirational Women says
Thanks! Have a fantastic weekend!

So glad it all worked out well in the end . That would have been so scary. You certainly have the right attitude of making the most of it! I chose to have a tubal ligation a couple of years ago, so hopefully will never need a full hysterectomy. Fingers crossed. Or legs. Or whatever. xo

Every day is a blessing xxx

I remember reading about your near death experience on your old blog! Wow! It’s been a year! And yes, obviously you’re still here for a reason! x
Janet says
I wondered if anybody would remember me posting about this on my old blog! So glad you followed me across to RCL Grace! xxx
Emily @ Have a laugh on me says
You look so happy in your ‘about to leave’ photo – just precious! No near death experiences here fortunately – Happy One Year – xx
Janet says
Thanks – I’m glad I’m still here to tell the story!
Cathy says
Of course it counts and OMG how scary!! Your family must have been petrified. You must be one of those “one in a million” cases that they write about on those pre-surgery forms we have to sign ????
Glad you lived to tell the tale, otherwise i may never have heard of Redlands City Living 🙂
Cathy says
Those ???? We’re meant to be an emoticon!
Cathy says
*were (gggrrrr autocorrect)!
Janet says
LOL Cathy over autocorrect and malfunctioning emoticons!
Yes I remember signing that paperwork before the surgery – but you never ever think it’s going to happen to YOU!
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Oh my goodness Janet, what we do without you???!!!
Thank goodness you’re OK now, and yes those kitties are quick healers 🙂
