My kitty and I have something in common – we have both had hysterectomies. We are hyster sisters!
Mind you, Misty recovered from her little op a hell of a lot quicker than I did. Just hours after her op we brought her home from the vet with strict instructions to make sure she didn’t over exert. Ha! She was bouncing around the house even before night fall that very same day. You just can’t keep a crazy kitty quiet!
Happy Hysterversary!
My hysterectomy was one year ago tomorrow.
I had fibroids which came with a truck load of symptoms – including severe anemia, bladder urgency, and a uterus the size of a four or five month pregnancy. I was relieved to have it diagnosed and the surgery booked, and looking forward to good health once again!
The surgery itself went well, but things went a bit haywire afterwards. Apparently I “forgot” to breathe when I was in the recovery ward, and went into respiratory arrest.
Fortunately *I* have no memory of it – the first thing I remember was waking up in ICU the next morning, gagging on the ventilator tube (my worst nightmare!). But I don’t think my family will ever forget how close they came to losing me that day!
A couple of days later I noticed the bruising on my chest, and I think that’s when it really hit me that I’d nearly died.
Recovery after that went reasonably well, although certainly nowhere as speedily as it did for Misty! Why do kitties heal up so much faster?! I was in hospital for five days, and had six weeks off work.
I kept my ovaries, so I still know when I’m cycling thanks to menstrual migraines – but otherwise all is good and I am thankful to have renewed energy and health!
One year later, it’s hard to believe I came so close to dying.
Obviously I am still on this earth for a reason and I intend to make the most of it!
What about you? Have you had a near death experience – or a hysterectomy?
It’s Friday, so I’m joining in Flog Your Blog Friday, and as my hysterectomy was a year ago, I reckon that totally counts for Flashback Friday, don’t you?!
