I Must Confess: I love having plenty of shoes.
It wasn’t always so.
Growing up, I was the eldest of four children, being raised by a single mother on the pension. Money wasn’t exactly plentiful; and shoes for four pairs of growing feet really stretched the budget!
For years I wore sneakers (sandshoes? joggers? sports shoes? – whatever you want to call them!) to school – and pretty much everywhere else, especially in Winter.
During Summer, one pair of sandals had to make do for all occasions.
Fast forward a few decades, and I am relishing the opportunity to enjoy more than a couple of pairs of shoes in my wardrobe!
Hubster doesn’t really understand, but thankfully he mostly turns a blind eye to my ever-growing shoe collection. He’s a good man!
To a bloke, one pair of black shoes is enough. Why does a woman need eight pairs of black shoes? Don’t they all look the same?!
Plenty of (Black) Shoes
But girls understand the finer nuances of shoe business.
Each different occasion, the time of day, the hemline, skirt or trouser choice affects which pair of black shoes is the RIGHT pair. It could be:
- ballet flats;
- fancy thongs;
- low heeled sandals;
- high heeled sandals;
- a court shoe;
- a wedge;
- knee high boots;
- ankle boots.
But … who wants to wear black shoes all the time? Not me!
All the Colours of the Rainbow!
That’s why you’ll also find women love plenty of shoes in all the colours of the rainbow: nude, red, gold, silver, white, bronze, hot pink, turquoise … in a variety of styles for a variety of outfits. Maybe not practical, or for everyday wear – but just to have the choice. What luxury!
Go on – be honest now – how many pairs of shoes do you have?!

Testing your comments form to make sure it’s working ok. It appears to be.
Janet says
Thanks Kathie. Maybe it’s the reader’s browser or something that’s creating the problem.
Lani says
Not many at all in my case! I like having stylish shoes but I tend to just have a few pairs. Honestly, I don’t really see why you need more than one nice pair of boots, one nice pair of black heels… etc. Not very girly I’m afraid!
That said, I need to buy a new pair of everyday shoes to replace my current Django & Juliette pair which I’ve had forever but my husband told me recently that I had to stop wearing them because the heel is falling off ๐
Janet says
I tell my husband that compared to many women, I’m quite restrained in my shoe collection and purchases!
Tegan says
I’m way too practical to have lots of pairs of shoes. I look at a pair of shoes and think ohh they are nice and then the old practical side kicks in and I think where can I wear them, will they be comfy etc. I think I have a shoe lover stuck inside me though!
Janet says
Hi Tegan, you will probably notice in my pic that most of my shoes are very “comfy” rather then the latest style – when I find a shoe that combines style and comfort (and a good price) I can’t resist!
Rae Hilhorst says
Apparently I am not allowed to buy any more shoes unless I throw a pair out. So I put them aside in the garage to go out to the good Sammie’s and then I sneak them back in again a week or so later.

Ooo I hope my hubby doesn’t read your comment or he might try to make me do the same!
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
I have about nine pairs of shoes, about half of them being ballet flats of varying styles and colours. I’m no good with heels and it seems so many shoes these days either have a huge heel or thick wedge – not my style at all…!
Janet says
I can’t wear heels very much either Kirsty, due to having a dodgy knee. Most of mine are flat or low heels/wedges.
Mystery Case says
I had over a hundred pairs of shoes, no flats though. I’ve had a bit of a clear out and down to about 80 or so. In my defence I was part of a photo shoot or two last year and the models were my size so I took the opportunity to increase my collection.
Janet says
LOL good defence! I probably have 20 pairs all up these days, feels so luxurious ๐
Ness says
I probably have around ten pairs of shoes and I have to confess they are mainly ‘Granny’ style shoes. I can’t walk in a lot of other shoes and just prefer comfort and practicality. Occasionally I buy different coloured shoes and then wonder what I’ll wear them with!
