Why I’m Not Working in the Nude Today

Today is a special day.

Don’t know what you were expecting, but it SO ain’t gonna happen 😉

It used to be known as “Working in the Nude Day” but this year it has been re-titled “Independents’ Day” – a day when solopreneurs (like me!) celebrate everything that’s great about running your own business.

While working in the nude was a pretty attention-grabbing way of showing off how great it is to be a solopreneur, it’s not for the faint-hearted. So personally I’m glad they’ve changed the focus!

Why I’m Not Working in the Nude Today …

  1. It doesn’t have it’s own “Day” anymore.
  2. Mr 21 is at home during the day. Awkies much?!
  3. Being summer, bare flesh tends to stick to the office chair which is a tad uncomfortable at best, a quick way to wax your legs unintentionally at worst.
  4. It would just feel wrong!
  5. What if somebody came to the door?
  6. Miss Fleur wouldn’t know what to think!
  7. Windows – I don’t want to give the neighbours a free show.
  8. Sometimes clients will Facetime me …
  9. I don’t think Facebook and Instagram would allow me to post pictures of my working in the nude, #everydaystyle!
  10. It might get a little chilly in the nude, as the cool change is expected to continue tomorrow.
  11. Hubster won’t be here to appreciate it.
  12. What if I accidentally spill some of my cup of tea on myself, without clothes to absorb it and protect my delicate skin?

… And I think we’re all very glad about that!

So I for one, embrace the brand new “Independents’ Day”!

Working from home, in my own business, means that I have freedom and flexibility to manage my own time and work, like the grown woman I am (so many bosses seem to forget their employees are adults, and treat them like preschoolers).

Miss Fleur takes her job of supervising my work, very seriously indeed

I can catch up with a friend for coffee, or go for a surf at lunchtime (even though I’ve never surfed 😉 ).

I can take Miss 19 to her Occupational Therapy appointments without seeking permission from the boss.

I can wear my nightie, an evening gown, or even work in the nude.

I can sleep in, finish early, and drop everything to write a blog post when inspiration strikes (like now 😉 ).

It sounds like a great life, doesn’t it?! And it is. But I should also throw in the disclaimer that I work harder now than I ever did as an employee, and probably longer hours too. But the joy of it is, a lot of the time it doesn’t even feel like work!

What’s the best thing about where you work?!
