So today I’m in rant mode, and I’m picking on the stronger sex.
I have a wonderful hubster who seems to be a rare specimen when it comes to the male gender, so I won’t include him in my rant.
Do you ever see something that leaves you wondering WHY anybody could have thought that it was a good idea? I Must Confess that when I do, I think to myself: It must have been a man! … Coz women as a rule generally have more common sense – or at least I hope so!
Example #1
WHY would anybody think it is a good idea to instal a window above a stove top. And a GAS stove top at that. And THEN, instal venetian blinds. Seriously people. WHAT THE!
This is what our kitchen looked like when we moved in 3 years ago …
With women usually being the queens of the kitchen, all I can do is shake my head in disbelief and think … It must have been a man!
Example #2
Redland locals will know what I’m talking about …
WHY would anybody think it is a good idea to put two major shopping centres on either side of a main road? I’m talking about Capalaba, home of Capalaba Park ever since I’ve been in the Redlands, and Capalaba Central, which opened when Mr 19-in-a-few-days was a baby (I remember because I could buy a box of Snugglers nappies on special for $13 or $14 – a big saving!).
Right from the start there was talk of linking the two centres with a pedestrian walkway. Fast forward nearly 20 years and it STILL hasn’t happened, what a surprise.
I can’t tell you HOW frustrating it is to have the shops split into two centres. In Capalaba Park we have:
- Kmart,
- Target,
- two supermarkets,
- numerous specialty stores and
- McDonald’s in the food court.
Capalaba Central offers:
- Big W,
- Best and Less,
- two supermarkets,
- Hungry Jack’s in the food court,
- the cinemas,
- and a heap more specialty stores.
With almost every shopping trip I find I end having to go to BOTH – a waste of my time and money. Is it any wonder many Redlanders head out of the City to Carindale or Loganholme to do their shopping?!
Let’s face it, men aren’t the shoppers in our universe. Therefore … It must have been a man!
Example #3
Another shopping centre – this time the Crystal Waters shops in Thornlands.
Even as they were building it (again, when our son was a baby), I couldn’t believe anybody would be stupid enough to build shops with the BACK facing the road on two sides. Not only does it mean you can’t easily see the shops (instead getting a lovely view of the industrial bins and delivery trucks as you pass by) – but this also makes the Centre a prime target for theft, vandalism and other criminal activity.
Was it the architects? The planners? One thing is for sure … it must have been a man!
Is there anything that you look at regularly, and wonder where common sense went? Does it make YOU think … it must have been a man?!
…
It’s Monday, so I’m joining up with Kirsty from My Home Truths for I MUST CONFESS, and Alicia at One Mother Hen for the OPEN SLATHER blog link ups
Me says
Yes, yes, yes !!!
Toilets in shopping centres where you just about have to stand on the toilet to be able to open or close the door !
HAve the best day !

I also hate toilet cubicles where they don’t go right down to the floor – seriously – I don’t want to see other people in the loo and I don’t want them to see me either! Not to mention the noises, the smells … LOL
Alicia says
Lol. I was just having the same thought yesterday, I swear most men aren’t wired for logic decisions. Love your solution to the venetians in the kitchen, must have been a nightmare cleaning those blinds!
Janet says
I was more worried they would catch on fire!
Ness says
I’m not the most logical person in the World, so I probably shouldn’t say too much against men. But I will anyway. They did a similar thing with our local shopping centre, they refurbished it and made it so HUGE that you have to walk miles from one end to the other, and up and down three storeys! Hmph. So rude. The fact that there is now more shops and variety is irrelevant.
Janet says
I know right – anybody would think we like to shop or something 😉
Jacana says
Yes – I think that men invent the eptos machines – because every single one is different. Now it a woman invented them they would all be the same and would all look the same – except perhaps the outside colour – a woman would give you the option to match it in to your stores decor.
Janet says
YES! Love it!
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
Hahaha Janet! That is so very true – men are responsible for some of the most inexplicable decisions, aren’t they? Thanks for playing along again!
Trish says
Men – they do the strangest things …my BIL is an architect and I could tell some stories …but I might be stalked.
Mystery Case says
I thought fire as soon as I saw that first picture and then cleaning. Probably best I don’t get started on male logic after the last few weeks I’ve had. Hubby went to sea and took all our debit/bank cards. Since moving from NSW to Perth we haven’t opened with a bank here as our mortgage/house is still in nsw all good with internet banking. Not so when you don’t have a card to access money and the nearest branch is 5000 km away. Last time he went he took both sets of keys. Seriously next time, there is going to be a full pat down and a strip search at the airport in full view of the public.
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Oh those shopping centres drive me crazy!! A walkway would be perfect, but then a woman would have to design it, of course 😉 xx
ann says
Lego is designed by a man for sure!! I have a post on it all ready to go for next week!! I remember the shops at Capalaba as we drove through there, you are right what a stupid idea!!
Janet says
I look forward to reading your Lego post 🙂
