It’s Scarf Season!

scarf season

I’ve been having fun shopping my own wardrobe over the weekend – because scarf season has arrived!

Scarf was a Mother’s Day gift several years ago

Overnight, we’ve gone from shorts and t-shirt weather to much more chilly.

That’s the reality of the climate here in Bris-Vegas, we don’t get much of a fall/autumn or even a spring. The weather seems to have two settings – stinking hot and humid for about 9 months of the year, and cooler through winter (but rarely dipping into single figures Celsius, let alone snow). We probably only have about 2 weeks where it gets really cold each year.

I’m at that age where it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, I can go from feeling fine to hot and sweaty in less than five minutes. So my winter wardrobe has to consist of layers, so that they can be easily added or taken off when required: short sleeved shirts (yes, really!), long sleeved shirts, vests, jackets and cardigans.

Enter my love affair with scarves. Scarves are a great way to add warmth and can be easily removed if my internal thermostat goes haywire (as it often does).

But I also love how they add a certain something to whatever you’re wearing. And just to prove it, I’ve put together a range of looks just by changing scarves; the rest of the outfit remains the same.

The basics are: denim jeggings from Kmart and striped shirt from Vivid International (both last season); Yarra Trail vest (thrifted last year); and Kmart shoes. Let me just stop and tell you about these cute flats, which I picked up on sale for $4. I wasn’t sure how they’d work with my existing wardrobe, but seeing as they’re a rust colour, I knew they would coordinate well with “my” autumn palette so decided to give them a try – and I’m so glad I did! This is one of the advantages of having your colours done; suddenly everything seems to work together. My colour journey continues!

Scarves are also a great way to introduce your best colours, to an outfit that otherwise isn’t – like I’ve done in this pic above. I picked up this peachy scarf with navy polka dots at Rockmans last year.

Print scarves are also a simple way to introduce a bit of interest, making a nice contrast against the stripey top. This scarf is also from Rockmans last year.

And as you can see in the pic above, I do love me a bit of leopard print!

This aztec print scarf (thrifted, years ago) is in muted colours, for a more subtle look. We all have days where we’d rather blend in than attract attention – am I right?!

You really can’t go wrong with a plain colour, like this grey scarf (which I’ve had for so long I don’t remember when or where I got it!).

Or why not try something a bit surprising, like this raspberry coloured infinity scarf (Vivid international last season).

For the ultimate lazy way to add some interest, just loop a scarf around your neck, no knotting or tying for a laid back look. Can you see how there are rust spots in the scarf, which echo the colour of the shoes?!

And finally … the pom pom garland in the photos is from Spotlight. I really want the husbear to hang it on the wall in my office above the desks, but he hasn’t gotten around to it yet. This may be because he thinks it is kinda weird. Pffft, what do men know about fashion and trends?! So I pinned it up out on the deck, wonder what he’ll think when he sees it there?! Might just spur him on to hang it properly in my office, LOL.

Any other scarf lovers out there?! And which look is your favourite?
