Sometimes it feels like the blogosphere is being overtaken by young mummy bloggers – where are the blogs for middle aged women, by middle aged women?!
Are you like me, well and truly past the stage of changing nappies and wiping little noses? Even if you’re still in that stage – or have never had kids – if you’ve discovered you need longer arms to read the fine print, and that pimples and wrinkles CAN happily co-exist on your face – then you will be able to relate to these blogs.
All are by Aussie women who are middle aged in the prime of life – I know that I enjoy them – I hope you do too!
Blogs Celebrating Midlife
- Middle Aged Mama – Of course! Just in case you didn’t already know – I’m Janet, and I’m learning to fashion a new life now the kids are grown π .Β I’m a crazy cat lady, with a passion for clothes, chocolate, chick lit and cruising holidays!
- Lifestyle Fifty – Over in Western Australia, we have Jo proudly waving the flag for middle aged women with Lifestyle Fifty, a life and style guide for getting older. Jo has a great upbeat take on the world and reminds us that far from being put out to pasture, more mature women can be fun, feisty and funky!
- Deep Fried Fruit – Leanne has been blogging every day since her 40th birthday, which was a few years ago now! From her Canberra home, she shares on the art of ageing positively. She is also the author of the children’s book series, “Cheer Chick Charlie”.
- Cresting the Hill – Leanne is based in Western Australia, a crazy cat lady, and a firm believer that midlife rocks!
Fashion & Beauty Blogs
- Iris May Style – Although the tagline on her blog is “the youthful girl’s guide to style”, I am sure the lovely Bev will forgive me for including her in this line up. (*Anyone with teenage – or older – kids is middle aged in my book!) Originally from the UK, Bev is now sharing her style right here in Australia, from her home on the Sunshine Coast.
- Styling You – Nikki is perhaps the best known of our middle aged bloggers, winning a Telstra business award in 2015. She blogs on all things style and beauty, and has a mild obsession with a certain TV show called “Offspring” …
- Sista with Style – Katrina is a Brisbane-ite, blogging about plus sized fashion, beauty tips, travel tales, life ramblings and a good dose of positive body image and confidence.
Psst … there are some more great Aussie fashion bloggers over 40 if you click here.
Finding Balance
It seems middle aged women like to get in touch with their deepest feelings and find inner calm, as is exemplified by ….
- Ying Yang Mother – Kathy admits she qualifies as middle-aged, being in her mid-4o’s, even though her children are still young. From her home on the Gold Coast, Kathy blogs about her love of yoga, and pursuit of balance.
- Write of the Middle – In a bayside suburb of Brisbane (not too far from me actually), we have the lovely Min, who has discovered a passion for photography. Min has three grown children (twin boys, plus a girl) and a cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Good for a Giggle
- Pinky Poinker – I had the pleasure of meeting the irrepressible Michelle (aka Pinky) at Problogger 2014. Pinky’s blog is a hoot – her posts range from the sublime to the ridiculous! She is married to Scotto (who sounds nearly as wonderful as my hubster), and has 5 grown kids.
- My Midlife Mayhem – Can you handle the truth about being middle aged?! Louisa at My Midlife Mayhem blogs about life, her long term marriage and teenage kids.
Books and More
- Debbish – Just like me, Deb took a redundancy from her government position in 2012. She seized the opportunity and made a sea change, moving to Hervey Bay. On Deb’s blog you’ll find chats about books (she loves a good crime novel) and life in general.
House & Home
- Domesblissity – Anne is a frugal living enthusiast, sharing recipes, tips and reviews on her blog. She also happens to live not far from me!
Travel
- 50 Shades of Age – Kathy hails from the Gold Coast, although she is currently trekking around Australia with her husband in their caravan (half her luck!). Her blog is a light-hearted take on life as a 50 something, although sometimes Kathy likes to tackle some of the more serious issues that face our age group, as we prepare for our golden years.
- Get in the Hot Spot – Yay Queensland! Meet Annabel, busily blogging from her home on the Sunshine Coast about travel, wellbeing and midlife adventure.
This’n’That
- Wonderfully Women – When I put the call out on Facebook for fabulous female bloggers that are unashamedly middle aged, Nikki from Wonderfully Women responded saying “I am in that zone”! Her blog, Wonderfully Women, is all about celebrating life and offers plenty of practical tips.
Latest Finds
- Diane Penelope – An award-winning graphic designer, and with a background in social media, Diane is a middle aged mama who started her blog to share her joy of beauty, fashion, lifstyle and decor.
So many great blogs for middle aged women – have fun checking them out – and don’t forget to let me know which one is your favourite, or if I’ve missed any other great ones!

Thank you SO MUCH for this list Janet. These are the kind of blogs I’ve been looking for. Just never used ‘middle aged’ as a search term ha ha (must be time I did). Some of these I already follow but I will definitely check out those that I haven’t stumbled upon as yet. Many thanks!
Janet Camilleri says
Glad to help Shauna! x
Kathy Marris says
Thanks for including me in this wonderfully talented bunch of middle-aged bloggers. However I am possibly on the wrong end of middle age now! I think all of these blogs are fantastic for different reasons. You have given me some new ones to follow and also listed some of the ones I read regularly. π
Janet Camilleri says
Nah you’re still a spring chicken Kathy π
Deborah says
Great post Janet and thank you so much for including me. I don’t follow everyone on the list either but will because I sometimes struggle to relate to some blogs that are very much about those starting out in life. (Also I get jealous cos sometimes I wish I still was!)
Janet Camilleri says
LOL I hear ya Deb. So nice how we are cultivating our own little community of midlife bloggers!
Seana Smith says
I’m a bit past middle age but am still blogging about playgrounds and my wee twins are still at primary school for two more years. Will I ever get to blog about MY AGE GROUP? Well, have started in a small way on my own site rather than Hello Sydney Kids.
Anyway, love reading the middle aged bloggers as I really can relate.
Janet Camilleri says
Surely not Seana? Ooo do tell me the URL for your new site so I can check it out x
Leanne says

Louisa says
Thanks for including me Janet. Going to check out my fellow ‘women of a certain age’ today.x
Janet Camilleri says
Enjoy Louisa. I loved your recent post about the most difficult part of parenting teens – you were spot on.
Vanessa says
Not having kids, I usually end up relating more to the middle aged bloggers than bloggers my own age.
I very genuinely struggle to comment on some blogs; I read posts but have nothing to say other than “haha, yeah, kids… uh… do stuff?”
Janet Camilleri says
LOL I struggle with that too Vanessa, or I find myself saying “I remember when my kids were little …” and then I sound ancient!!!
Annette Jones says
Great list here, thanks Janet. I live in Queensland too and write over at World Travel Tribe. Glad I found your blog!
Janet Camilleri says
Welcome Annette! I’ve just been browsing your site – would love to have a bit more travel in my life.
Kathy says
Thanks for including me Janet – I have been MIA lately, hence the very late comment. I can blame it on being 48 with a 6 year old and a 13 year old – it gets busy and tiring I have to admit!
Janet Camilleri says
Dear Kathy, I completely understand! Life just gets in the way of this blogging gig sometimes π
Paula Lawrance says
Love your blog Janet, I have been thinking of having a blog for a while now. I am 42 had my children young, so life is changing quite quickly. I work full time and enjoyed making craft items in my spare time, one daughter has moved out and another will be going to university next year a lot of change and thinking of completely changing my career, would love some tips.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Paula! Lovely to have you here. As for blogging, I am a blog addict and definitely say “go for it”! You can get a free blog through WordPress.com. Once your children are grown, it’s a great time to change careers – not as much demand on family finances, more time so you can study, you can try launching a business part-time to see if it is viable while you are still in your current job. Would love to hear how you go, keep in touch!
Diane Penelope Kennedy says
I would love to add my blog to this, being a design and middle aged mum. I write about beauty tips for over 40’s, my menopause story and a range of topics that instrest me, a 47 year old who feels 20. My site is at http://dianepenelope.com
Janet Camilleri says
Welcome Diane, I’ve just had a browse of your blog and it looks lovely! x
Nishtha jain says

Janet Camilleri says
I’ve just had a quick look at your website and really like some of the dresses there! Which shops stock Orientique in the Redlands?
Angela Chaperon says
