Mornings, Evenings – or Both?!

Janet Camilleri · 12/09/2013 ·

Showering with DaddyI’ve talking about bathing of course – whether you shower or bath, and when. (Why? What were YOU thinking?!)

For my entire adult life, I’ve been a morning shower person. It helps me to wake up, and I just don’t feel fresh or ready for the day without it.

When I first met hubster though, he thought that was pretty weird. He was the exact opposite – he thought it was very grubby to just hop into bed without showering away the grime of the day first! (Might have something to do with the fact he grew up on a farm?)

But eventually I converted him ;-).

Although, I must confess there is a lot of merit to his idea, and I often have a quick dip at night so I’m fresh and clean for bed. It’s not such a bad idea especially in the humid (think sweaty!) summer months.

When we had babies, we got into the habit of bathing them in the morning too. One of us would often taken the baby into the shower with us, while the other one was ready with a towel to dry baby off afterwards.

Bubble BathEven as they got older and headed to kindy and school, they would have their shower in the morning. Baths were more of a luxury, and a bit of a special treat. At the time we had a huge spa bath so it also prevented wasting water! (Of course if the kids got really grubby from the day’s play, we showered/bathed them at night too).

It worked well for us, and I was always glad that I didn’t *have* to bath them in the evening. Any mum of little ones will know that it’s the “witching hour” anyway so the less that HAS to be done then, the better!

What works for your household – mornings? Evenings? or both?!

Evenings for me, Janet. Its part of my bedtime routine. But every two or three mornings, I have a morning shower as well and wash my hair. My kids shower in the evening. If it has been one of those days, and we’re not coping, my 5 year old daughter likes to have a ‘powder shower’, which involves dousing her with powder, in lieu of a shower!! I’m also the ‘shower police’ as we are on tank water. So if the kids are taking too long, I knock on the door and yell, “FINISH UP’!! (hubby doesn’t get that treatment though – he’s a mechanic so he needs lots of time to get all that grease off!!)
The only thing I hate about showers, is cleaning them 🙂

LOL that reminds me of the song we used to sing our kids as we put baby powder on them … “I’ve got the power!” only with the word “powder” instead of “power”!

Mornings for adults, evenings for kiddies. The evenings are busy, but mornings would be waaay too busy if we had to bathe the kids too!

That’s true, I look back on it now and wonder how I ever got out the door on time!

It’s evenings for me, I like to go to sleep clean. Hubby is the opposite and will shower in the morning if he hasn’t been out playing on the farm during the day (then he has to shower before jumping into bed).

And our little dog, she gets a bath about once a week. When we had our farm dog he used to go for a swim in the dam every day, even during winter (brrrrr!).

    Cheers,
    Lynda.

We’ve taken our cat in the shower ever since she was a kitten. She’s not thrilled, but she tolerates it, and it can be quite handy if she’s been playing outside!

I’m morning, but if beach holiday or skiing, I switch to evening (both on the day of arrival and departure). Had never thought about it – that’s a little weird.

I guess that’s the joy of blogging – we get to think (and blog) about all sorts of weird and wonderful things!

With early morning starts for hubby , he usually baths or showers at night, funnily enough he grew up on a farm! It helps as I can usually chuck the girls in with him every other day too. Bonus!

We used to have a big double shower in the house we lived in until the kids were about 9 and 7 – we used to have “family showers”!

It used to be both morning and evening but I’ve figured out if I wash my hair the night before and skip the morning shower I get an extra 15 min sleep! Hot rollers restore my flat hair in the morning!

Morning always, both preferably. And always with a little person. I’m sure one day I’ll miss it, right?
