Sitting in my office, swamped by work – I’m thinking it’s time for a break, and I don’t mean just a cup of tea at my desk!

No, I’m planning our next romantic weekend getaway 🙂 .
Our 36th wedding anniversary is getting close, so we’ve been considering our options … here’s a pic of me as a blushing bride! (Want more pics? Check out my post “Fun Facts about our Wedding“!)

While we do sneak away regularly to our holiday home on Coochiemudlo Island, to enjoy the laid back beachside lifestyle, special occasions call for something … well … a bit more special.

Like the time I arranged for the husbear and I to spend a weekend at a cosy cabin in the Sunshine Coast hinterland for his birthday (about 10 years ago now!).

Or our last anniversary, when we stayed on the 60th floor of a luxury apartment building in the heart of Brisbane. It had amazing city views and was so convenient to restaurants, events and shopping (who would have thought that less than a year later, we would be living nearby!).

This time? I’m thinking that a romantic weekend getaway in Stanthorpe would be ideal.

This is not as easy as it sounds! You see, we have relatives in the area which means traditionally we visit or even stay with them. So shhhhh, we will have to keep our plans very quiet so nobody gets offended 😉 . It will be a rare treat to stay somewhere on our own, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside.
As it will be May, the autumn foliage will be glorious, and the nights crisp and cool. Of course we’ll have to make a point of booking somewhere with a fireplace!
There are so many attractions in the Granite Belt region – we could visit the wineries or the local Farmers Markets; go for a drive to Boonoo Boonoo Falls, or wander along Quart Pot Creek which meanders through town.

Or we could just do nothing at all!
It got me to wondering – WHY are romantic weekend getaways so great? Why are they so much more relaxing and refreshing, than just spending a quiet weekend at home?
Why a Romantic Weekend Getaway?!
Finally I realised the answer: No Distractions.
When you spend the weekend away, you don’t have to worry about the washing, or the lawn that needs mowing, or the hundred and one other household tasks awaiting attention.
Nobody can drop in for a visit.
And it’s ideal if you can stay somewhere that has little to no phone reception – no texts, emails or phone calls to bother you!
There is nothing to do except whatever you want – which is to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
It’s kinda cute that after 36 years of marriage – and more than 38 years as a couple – we still enjoy, and even yearn for each other’s company.
Where is your favourite spot for a romantic weekend getaway?
