The final Wedding Day Disaster actually happened on our wedding night.
What did you think your wedding night would be like? Did you have visions (like I did), of disappearing into the bathroom to “slip into something more comfortable”, only to return to your new husband’s arms and melt with desire?!
Not for us – it was more of a wacky wedding night! You see, it wasn’t me that melted – it was my fingernail!
I’d indulged in acrylic nails for the first time, the day before the wedding. The only problem was, I found them very uncomfortable and by the time we reached our hotel, all I wanted to do was rip them – rather than my clothes – off!
The beautician had given me a jar of solution, which I vaguely remembered I was to dilute with water and then soak my nails in if I wanted to remove them. So I soaked, and soaked, and soaked. After an hour, they still weren’t budging – and I was in agony!
In desperation, I dipped one of my nails into a bowl of neat solution. Surely that would do the trick?
Alas, no. It had melted the fake nail – and was destroying the nail underneath – fortunately I’d stopped before any serious damage was done!
But I was still left with these annoying, uncomfortable claws nails.
My brand new and very patient hubster phoned my best friend, a veteran of acrylic nails – much to her surprise. He teased her by saying “Hey guess what we’re doing now!”.
Once she had calmed down from her hysterics, she advised that the solution would have weakened the glue and I should be able to pick the nails off within a day or two. In the meantime I would just have to put up with it (being so much older and wiser all these years on, I would have just cut and filed my talons shorter).
As a result, I was not in a very romantic frame of mind on our wedding night 
Not suprisingly, it was years before I got fake nails again …
