Earlier this year I was privileged to participate in a colour consultant workshop.
It’s led to quite a few changes over the past few months – I’ve changed my hair colour, lipstick, and there are new colours appearing in my wardrobe!
And now for the next chapter: this weekend, I’m booked in for an image and style class.
We’ve been asked to select and bring certain items from our wardrobes to demonstrate our current style, and I’ve really struggled to choose things – hence this blog post. As I write about it I’m hoping things become clearer in my own mind!
What Is my Current Style?
I need to bring something to reflect each of the following dress codes:
- casual
- smart casual
- workwear
- glam
As it’s still quite early days in my colour journey, they won’t necessarily be items from my autumn palette, but even then, it’s not an easy task.
There are a few reasons why this exercise is proving such a challenge for me.
- First of all, if at all possible I’m supposed to bring items which currently fit me … oops. Now *that* could be difficult! I’ll let you in on a little secret, I haven’t been doing my morning walks for almost six months now (long story) and as a result have gone up a whole dress size over the winter months.
- My winter and summer styles are quite different, so I’ve decided to stick with winter items only to keep it simple.
- And, I’m at that “interesting” stage of life where my internal thermostat has gone haywire. My engine is running on warm all the time, and I also can become very hot and drenched with sweat unexpectedly … so layers are essential!
So what items am I likely to choose?
Casual Style
Whether I’m relaxing on the weekend or working from home, my winter uniform is quite simple: pants and a top, with a cardigan, vest or jumper if it’s cold.
Smart Casual
Smart casual tends to be quite similar – perhaps with a scarf or earrings to jazz things up, and a jacket over the top. Oh, and I love boots!
Workwear
Yes, I work from home so can get away with wearing just any old thing, but I still need something decent to wear to client meetings, networking events, etc.
Glam
Glam is a tough one – because for me, my workwear is about as close to “glam” as it gets!
As I look over my selections, it’s clear I like simple fuss-free clothing.
I’m predicting that I will be a casual/sporty style personality (which is quite hilarious because there ain’t a sporty bone in my body!) – but then again when I went to the colour workshop I was convinced I was a summer and turned out to be an autumn, so what do I know?!
Have you ever worked with a stylist or image consultant, either at a shopping centre, individually, or in a group?
