Preparing for a Style Class

after dental bonding

Earlier this year I was privileged to participate in a colour consultant workshop.

It’s led to quite a few changes over the past few months – I’ve changed my hair colour, lipstick, and there are new colours appearing in my wardrobe!

And now for the next chapter: this weekend, I’m booked in for an image and style class.

We’ve been asked to select and bring certain items from our wardrobes to demonstrate our current style, and I’ve really struggled to choose things – hence this blog post. As I write about it I’m hoping things become clearer in my own mind!

What Is my Current Style?

I need to bring something to reflect each of the following dress codes:

As it’s still quite early days in my colour journey, they won’t necessarily be items from my autumn palette, but even then, it’s not an easy task.

There are a few reasons why this exercise is proving such a challenge for me.

So what items am I likely to choose?

Casual Style

Whether I’m relaxing on the weekend or working from home, my winter uniform is quite simple: pants and a top, with a cardigan, vest or jumper if it’s cold.

Hanging out at home in my fave comfy jeans, Katies top (Join Katies to get $10 off* your first order!) and soft cardigan.
Okay so I’m posing a bit in this pic, but ditch the necklace and swap the shoes for ugg boots and this is what my REAL everyday style looks like.
Sometimes I wear a vest* over a long sleeve top*, if it’s a bit cool.

Smart Casual

Smart casual tends to be quite similar – perhaps with a scarf or earrings to jazz things up, and a jacket over the top. Oh, and I love boots!

Love this floral top* even if it’s not in my autumn colours.
Red tulip dress* over black leggings and ankle boots.
Plain top* jazzed up with a scarf.
Add a jacket over my top* and infinity scarf*, and I’m ready to roll.

Workwear

Yes, I work from home so can get away with wearing just any old thing, but I still need something decent to wear to client meetings, networking events, etc.

I love this navy tulip dress* and colourful vest* with heels.
Wearing layers* over my favourite black skirt to keep me comfortable no matter what the weather is doing!

Glam

Glam is a tough one – because for me, my workwear is about as close to “glam” as it gets!

When I’m getting dressed up, I usually build my outfit around my stretchy black pencil skirt and heels. I wore this to a wedding recently …
Unfortunately I no longer have this dress which I wore to an awards night in 2017 – the glitter didn’t survive the washing machine. But that’s okay as it only cost me $10 on sale!

As I look over my selections, it’s clear I like simple fuss-free clothing.

I’m predicting that I will be a casual/sporty style personality (which is quite hilarious because there ain’t a sporty bone in my body!) – but then again when I went to the colour workshop I was convinced I was a summer and turned out to be an autumn, so what do I know?!

Have you ever worked with a stylist or image consultant, either at a shopping centre, individually, or in a group?
