Swept away by a tide of maternal pride and enthusiasm, I entered our firstborn (now Mr 19) in a couple of baby shows. Actually, it was more for something fun to do with a friend who was hugely into that sort of thing.
I only did a couple because I didn’t like how competitive and over the top it was.
Besides, every Mum thinks her bub should win and there is no justice in the world if they don’t bring home a prize!
Mr 19 was a placid smiley baby, and easily won over the judges’ hearts – he won a couple of ribbons for random categories like “Prince of the Baby Show” (whatever that means!).
In the interests of fair parenting, I really should have done the same for our second child. But I didn’t.
Mr 19 loves to tease his sister that the reason I never entered her in any baby shows was because she was an ugly baby!
Have you ever been caught out by your kids for not being “fair”?!
