I might be a middle aged woman dependent on her reading glasses, but I know a trend when I see one!
Flicking through my Instagram feed last week, I couldn’t help but notice that I was seeing a sea of green – and in particular, palm leaf print.
In Praise of Palm Leaf Print
When you are barely surviving the heatwave conditions, it’s hard to get enthusiastic about fashion. Looking good be damned, you just want to feel cooler!
I think that’s why traditionally February is a bit of a “meh” month for me style-wise. And maybe others feel the same, which is why the retailers are stocking winter fashion, almost before you can tear the January page off your calendar. Forget dreaming of a white Christmas, we are all just dreaming of cooler weather, full stop!
Enter the palm leaf print. And I can see why it’s taken off:
- It’s fresh and summery looking;
- It reminds us of the lovely holiday feeling we were most likely enjoying only a month or so ago;
- and it usually features cool colours such as green, blue and white.
In fact green definitely seems to be the “colour du jour”.
Don’t believe me?
Here’s the evidence that the Aussie fashion scene is going green, and in particular, embracing a palm leaf print (click on the picture to be taken to each stylish lady’s Instagram account) …
Do you have any palm leaf print clothing – or do you suddenly feel an irresistible urge to add some to your wardrobe?!

I love my palm leaf print dress from Sha-de. I also have leaf print cushions in my alfresco area. It’s definitely a trend I love seeing.

Yes I have a dress from a couple of seasons back – so ahead of the trend ha ha!! I had never thought of it as a palm print dress but an Instagram follower described it as so. Gosh, I have surprised myself by being on trend without even realising it.
