Seth Finds a Furever Home

Janet Camilleri · 12/07/2017 ·

ONCE UPON A TIME, there was a cat named Seth who came from a land far, far, away (Tasmania in fact).Β

But the wicked landlord banished him and so he went to live at theΒ Redland Animal Shelter, until another family decided to take him home.

It all seemed purrfect! But his new step-kitty made his life hell, so he packed his knapsack and sadly returned to the animal shelter, wondering what was to become of him. Would he ever find his happy ending?!

For those who have been following the Seth saga, I have some good news.

After I reluctantly surrendered Seth to the animal shelter in the hopes that he would find a better life (one where he isn’t bullied by Miss Fleur), he has found his furever home.

Poor Seth wasn’t sure what was going on

Back here at our place!

Yup, you read that right.

Although Mr 23 knew about and understood our decision, and even came with me to return Seth to the animal shelter, he was utterly miserable in the days following.

And so was Seth as it turned out. We rang the pound to check on how Seth was going, and were dismayed to hear that he wasn’t doing very well at all. He was depressed, refusing to eat, hissing at people and in a bad way. His future was not looking bright – who would want a cat like that?

Luckily this story has a happy ending. Our very own Mr 23 has now officially joined the ranks of the crazy cat men of Australia, and adopted Seth.

Seth's back
The boys have been reunited!

You may be wondering how this works, after all the trouble we had previously.

First of all, Seth and Fleur are totally separated. She has the run of the indoors, while Seth’s territory is the cat patio, Mr 23’s room, and the yard. Because Seth is no longer anxious or stressed, he hasn’t sprayed.

Fleur also seems much more relaxed and content in the knowledge that she is my “top cat”; while Seth is clearly thriving now he is in the care of his boy.

And I am much more relaxed too. I always felt guilty that I wasn’t giving Seth enough attention (even though he didn’t really want it from me, as he saw me as belonging to Fleur), and now I don’t have to worry. I still pat him and make a fuss of him when I see him, but my burden has lifted.

The bond between Seth and Mr 23 is undeniable. Even the animal shelter staff commented on it over on my Facebook page: “Seth certainly wasn’t happy to be back at the shelter but he was just sooo smoochy when he saw your son”. Seth literally calmed down the moment he saw our boy had returned to collect him, and became his old lovable self again.

As for Mr 23, he seems to have grown up overnight now that he is daddy to a fur baby. Yes, he even cleans Seth’s litter tray, and buys the food, litter, and anything else Seth needs. And when Mr 23 eventually flies the nest, Seth will be going with him. Because you just can’t keep bro’s apart πŸ™‚ .

I love a happy ending, don’t you?!
