Now that the calendar has officially turned over to December, it’s time to get into the festive spirit with some Christmas craft ideas!
I Must Confess: that for me to undertake any form of craft, it has to be much like my favourite recipes: 1. Easy 2. Quick and 3. Simple.
If that sounds like you too, here are some idiot proof Christmas craft ideas for the non-crafty among us!
Holly Lollies
Fill a bowl with these holly lollies for a friend, or hang them on the Christmas tree as edible decorations.
When my kids were little, we used to make these holly lollies for them to give out to school friends at the end of term, taped to a Christmas card.
You will need:
- Red & green cellophane
- Curly ribbon
- Jaffas
- Spearmint leaves
- Scissors
How to Make Holly Lollies:
- Cut cellophane into roughly 12cm squares, and the curly ribbon into 30cm lengths.
- Wrap a jaffa in each of the red squares, a spearmint leaf in each of the green squares. Twist to secure.
- OPTIONAL: for each one you wrap, pop one in your mouth! (Or at least that’s what seems to happen in our house ;-)).
- Tie 2 leaves and 2 berries together with ribbon, and finish by tying curly ribbon into a bow.
Jelly Bean Fridge Magnets
These magnets are a sweet gift (pardon the pun!) for neighbours and friends, yet are so simple to make.
- Mini muffin cases
- Magnets
- Craft glue
- Jellybeans
- Spray lacquer
How to Make your Jelly Bean Fridge Magnets:
- Apply glue to magnets, press a muffin case on top.
- Apply glue to inside bottom of cases, and press in 3 or 4 jelly beans. (If you use 4, like we have, you may need a dob of extra glue on top). Allow to dry.
- Spray lacquer on jelly beans, allow to dry overnight.
Miss 17 and I seem to make holly lollies nearly every year – it’s almost becoming a tradition to make them, along with my decadent chocolate cherry rum balls!
Is there a Christmas craft activity that you turn to, year after year?!

nice to have traditions. Looks like a fun way for craft!

We don’t have too many but this one has stuck around π

The holly lollies look great! I love spearmint leaves too – May mean my attempt just turns into jaffas in a bowl…
Janet says
It’s the Jaffas that are an endangered species in our house, though I do like the spearmint leaves too π
Ness says
Bit of a craft free zone around here but that does look like fun. The only problem is we’d probably end up eating all the lollies before we were finished!

I love this idea! I hate the idea of sending candy canes, because practically every kid does; this is much better. Thanks for sharing it. I will also.
Janet says
Hi Shelly, that’s it exactly – a bit different to the standard candy canes π
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
Lovely ideas there Janet! I really have to make a greater effort this year and do more christmas activities with the kids – these look easy enough for even me to tackle without too much chance of disaster!
Janet says
If I can do it, anybody can π

HAHAHA…. I love the OPTIONAL tip in the Holly Lollies!!

I discovered Tim Tam Balls a couple of years ago and I make them every year now! I use different flavoured Tim Tams to give it a bit of a twist as well. I may also have ‘left over’ Tim Tams after I’m finished too lol

I totally agree about your criteria for crafts! The holly lollies would be great taped to Christmas cards.

Cute Christmas craft. Esther will love doing these!
