I’ve often been told I have a lovely smile, but I must confess I felt the colour of my teeth really let me down.

They’ve always been quite yellow – probably due to a combination of the antibiotics I took as a child, and being an avid tea/coffee drinker.

Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening
Look at this for results!

Although I’ve used various whitening toothpastes for years I’ve never really felt they made all that much difference (except sometimes it gives me a rash!).

I’ve thought about getting teeth whitening done at the dentist but there were two things which really stood in the way:

  1. The Cost – Miss 18 had her teeth whitened after her braces were removed and it cost $500;
  2. I’m a Complete Dental-Phobic – despite the fact we have a lovely dentist, I avoid visiting him whenever possible.

What is Smile Brilliant?

So when the folk at Smile Brilliant in the USA asked me if I’d like to review their custom made home whitening trays, it was a bit of a no-brainer! And as you can see from the “Before” and “After” photos above, it really did make a noticeable difference. One of my sisters is my harshest critic and even SHE was impressed – and asked me for the details so she could order the Smile Brilliant kit for herself!

Pros:

  • Once you are familiar with the process, it’s simple to whiten and brighten your smile. Now I just pop the whitening trays in for 30 – 60 minutes if I want to brighten my teeth up before a special event.
  • I liked that I was in control of the uncomfortable part of making the impressions of my teeth; even though it made me gag a little, I could take it at my own pace.
  • I noticed a difference from the very first use.
  • The cost works out to just under $200 Australian which is much more affordable.
  • I am very happy with the results.

 Cons:

  • The whole process does take a couple of months. Smile Brilliant first contacted me before Christmas; it’s taken since then for me to receive the kit, make my teeth impressions, send them back, receive my custom made trays, and then use them over the past few weeks.
  • I did experience a little bit of gum irritation.
  • I messed up the first impression I made – but luckily Smile Brilliant sends out enough molding material to allow for stuff ups!
  • It can be a little tricky to talk with the trays in – so don’t plan any important phone calls for when you are whitening!

So would I recommend Smile Brilliant? Definitely. In fact, I will be buying some more of the whitening gel when my current supply runs out – that’s how happy I am with it!

I’m impressed with the difference. I tried a similar product, made in Australia (I think) and while I did see initial results, the impact on my gums that were already playing up meant I just couldn’t continue. I’m like you as far as dentists go, but I would dearly love to do something about the colour of my teeth.

Now I see the results I wish I had said yes when they asked me! I wasn’t sure I could do it properly. So glad you had some great results…. x

I must admit I am a bit of a sceptic when it comes to this but you have proved me wrong. It has made a huge difference. And btw, you do have a gorgeous smile…

Wow – that is amazing. I would definitely give it a try. But maybe at home alone with no kids or partner to tease me (or take photos)

Wow that has really made a difference. I am scared of the dentist too. I had to take Mr 5 for a check up last week and I was crapping myself the whole time, even though I wasn’t the one in the chair!

Oh, pick me!!! I’ve always had quite white teeth, but too much diet coke means they’re discoloured and I’ve stopped smiling! Once upon a time I always smiled in photos, on the rare occasion I have my picture taken I won’t smile because I’m so paranoid.

I asked my dentist about it last year but the cost was prohibitive – more so now that I’m not working at all.

I must be the only person who enjoys the dentist. There is nothing like that fresh clean feeling you after a good scrubbing. The only issue I find is the cost. I had my teeth whitened once due to coffee and smoke stains (glad to say I haven’t picked up one for 5 years) and it almost sent me broke. Plus the dentist completely stuffed up one of my teeth. I’ve tried every home whitening kit and remedy you can think of and nothing seems to get it the right shade, this kit my have changed my mind!

No, I have never had the chance to whiten my teeth! I would love to see what difference it can make on my teeth, which I believe are pretty white – but are probably not!

i have had good and bad experiences with whitening my teeth i once used a powder type whitening paste which gave a great result but when i started to eat i found my front teeth chipped . i usually only allow the dentist clean my teeth properly but would love to try a new and improved whitening agent

I’ve never used a home whitening kit, but after seeing the great results on your teeth I would be inclined to try the Smile Brilliant Kit. As a compulsive coffee drinker, my teeth could probably do with some whitening.

Yes, I used to whiten my teeth through the dentist BK (before kids) now all my money goes to the kids and I never get the opportunity to indulge in such leisures! Of the memory of whiter, brighter teeth!

Hi Janet, I know I am too late for the competition but I just felt like responding to you. I have been searching for a good inexpensive teeth whitener for years & just saw a review of smilebrilliant on YouTube & then found your blog. I have tried lots of products, even had a teeth whitened on a cruise which was a waste of money. Am excited to find this & am going to give it a try, hope it works. Fingers & toes crossed.
