First things first: is is Majorca, or Mallorca?!
All our travel documents and cruise brochures said “Mallorca”; but as a regular trashy magazine reader, I was much more used to “Majorca”, being a popular holiday destination for the rich and famous.
Turns out the Spanish call it Mallorca; many years ago, the British gave it their own spelling of Majorca.
Whichever version you prefer, looking at these snapshots from Mallorca, it’s easy to see why this sunny island off the coast of Spain is such a drawcard!
Which spelling do you prefer for Majorca/Mallorca – and do you think we should let them get away with selling boomerangs as souvenirs?!
Linking up with My Little Drummer Boys for Wordless Wednesday.

Oh it looks so tropical and warm there.
The fountain in the roundabout is delightful.
Happy #WW thanks for linking up.

It was very warm! Wishing I was back there right now!

do they pronounce it may-or-ca or mall-or-ca? I can’t wrap my head around it being spelt with l’s. I love the pond at the cathedral! So pretty. I really want to go to Spain one day.
Janet Camilleri says
Toni, I think it’s pronounced Ma-yorka regardless of the spelling. Yes I though the pond was gorgeous too, like something out of a fairytale!

Lovely photo’s Janet! It must seem surreal that you were actually there now that you’re home and back into the usual routine! I always think of it as Majorca! π
Janet Camilleri says
Me too Min … we’re already trying to work out when and where for our next holiday … we’ve got the bug!

That looks beautiful (and I love the boomerangs.) If you go up the back of Bali (past Taro sp?) there are craftsmen making all the souviners for all over the world, including digeridoos and boomerangs…it’s hilarious! (and I apparently can’t spell today) Sorry. Brains out.
Janet Camilleri says
LOL that’s cray cray! Love it!

Lovely photos of what looked like a lovely place. Mallorca/Majorca – who cares! You find there is a lot of variation with spelling of place names all over the world. As for selling our Aussie boomerangs as souvenirs – that is just so typical. It’s like they are selling good old Aussie Ugg Boots in the US. How dare they!!
Malinda @mybrownpaperpackages says
Oh lucky you, what a fabulous holiday. But boomerangs??! How bizaare.

Too funny about the name. I always wondered what the difference was. We used to travel there often when I lived in the UK. Such a pretty part of Europe xx
