Did you know, it’s really REALLY hard to put together a list of apple shaped celebrities?!
Most famous folk tend to keep their figures as slim and trim as possible at all times, meaning most of them are “celery” or “string-bean” shaped!
Mind you, there are some very famous *pear* shapes. For some unknown reason, big booty seems to be the flavour of the month – a la Kim Kardashian, J Lo, Beyonce and Co.
So back to apple shaped celebrities – famous women with a thicker middle; usually with great legs. Now, THIS was the key to identifying the (potential, should they actually eat a pasta dinner) apple shaped celebrities – by their legs, ye shall know them.
And the point of finding them? Style inspiration of course for the rest of us apple shapes! Whenever you see their pic in future, you may just find some style inspiration (even if it’s what NOT to wear!).
10 Apple Shaped Celebrities
1 – Liz Hurley. Liz makes it on this list purely because of her lovely legs and the fact that she works them, baby. Have you ever seen her on the red carpet without a thigh high split – or a short skirt like this one? She is deliberately drawing our attention to her legs, and not her waist – which I suspect may be her problem area.
2 – Amy Schumer. She’s baring the boobs AND has a thigh high split in this pic, so you’re too busy looking at them rather than her tum. Although I’m not sure the triangles on her torso are a good idea. They look like they’re pointing out her pot belly!
3 – Drew Barrymore. I really don’t like this dress on Drew; itΒ just makes her mid-section look thick. It would have been so much better if it was fitted under the boobs. If you have an apple shape – take note!
4 – Catherine Zeta Jones. Wowza! She always looks great. But I especially love how she’s working the pocket in this pic – you wouldn’t catch a pear shape doing something like that! In this pantsuit, CZJ is drawing attention to the area ABOVE her tum – with a bright print, and making sure it is fitted at her narrowest point (under the boobs).
5 – Jessica Simpson. I know it’s usually a good idea to emphasize boobs (and legs) to distract from a pot belly, but this is going a tad too far in my boobs books.
6 – Adele. A show stopping jacket over black is a great look (though I’d prefer it shorter, otherwise all the volume further down can make an apple shape look big all over). I’ve noticed myself, that black hides a multitude of sins. The same dress in a light colour can make me look 6 months pregnant, but switch it to black or something dark and my tummy disappears like magic!
7 – Lindsay Lohan. Yes, she’s usually incredibly thin, but I’ve seen quite a few pics of her in a one piece bathing suit floating around on the web and it is NOT a good look on her. Just like when I wear a one piece. One apple shape can definitely recognise another!
8 – Kate Winslet. This dress started off well – halter necks can be very flattering for an apple shape, and the beading also keeps your eyes up – but then the fabric creases all around the tummy area. The lesson for other apple shapes? Steer away from fabrics which crease – or just don’t sit down π !
9 – Dawn French. Dawn looks cute as a button here! This is one of my “go to” looks, expecially in the cooler months – a tunic, with tights or leggings, and boots.
10 – Lisa Rinna. Hooray for splicing! There’s nothing like it for creating a slimming look around the tummy area. It’s a trick I’m all too familiar with π … see below!
Can you think of any other apple shaped celebrities to add to my list of style inspiration?!
Yes, yay for splicing!
It’s a miracle worker in my book! I always feel gorgeous in the dress above even if I am carrying around a few extra kilos at the moment x
I am a big old pear shape, it took me years to understand how to dress for my shape. Now days I choose dresses that show off my waist and hide the rest π
You are so lucky – what I would give to have a waist. Or maybe I should say – LESS of a waist!
Drew Barrymore always looks amazing, when she’s thicker and when she’s not. I love that chick.
She does, but if only this dress was fitted under her boobs it would look so much more flattering!
I am an apple which drew me to this post. I’m in good company it seems with Amy and Drew. π
Yes it was a tough job to research this post, but worth the effort π
Great post! I’ve picked up quite a few tips from this! π
Good to hear Ingrid! I had quite a bit of fun researching and writing it π
I’m definitely a pear, but I’m okay with that (mostly). Love Kate Winslet in anything though, even creases.
I hear ya – I’m okay with being an apple (mostly) but sometimes I wish I had a (smaller) waist!
Love this post Janet. I’m an hourglass/vase shape. I love Kate Winslet. Just watched the Dressmaker on the weekend and loved her in it.
I’d love to see that – hope it pops up on Netflix soon!
That pic of Dawn French is weird! It looks like she’s super short!
I have no idea what shape I am. I used to say Pear, but I’m not that big through the bottom. My belly isn’t great but it’s not the first play I put on weight, and my hips are much worse.
I’m completely clueless!
I’d say you have a perfect figure Jess. And I think the pic of Dawn French looks weird because the photographer is looking down on her – it’s all in the angle!
Black is always good for making tummies disappear π And I agree the triangles on Amy’s dress are screaming LOOK AT MY BELLY HERE IT IS, OVER HERE.
#teamIBOT lol
It would have been much better without them!
I love how clothes can make all the difference – besides the obvious reasons!! I love that when you wear something flattering for your shape you can look a million bucks without wearing Bridget Jones style knickers either – great tips Janet xx
I know what you mean Jo, although there are times when I wish I had one of those figures (like my daughter, Miss 19) where ANYTHING looked good, even a paper bag!
Kate Winslet is hourglass not apple. Her hips are much too big for apple.
You may be right … but she looks like an apple to me in this dress at least!
