The A to Z of Colour: My Word for 2019

Janet Camilleri · 30/01/2019 ·

So you already know that my “one little word” for 2019 is colour.

However I got to chatting with fellow blogger Leanne from Cresting the Hill, and when I heard that she was working on an A to Z list with her one little word – “more” – to make it more intentional in her life, I wondered if I could do the same with “colour” … so here we are.

Here are just some of the ways I plan to incorporate “colour” into my life this year.

The A to Z of Colour

A – Accessories. Traditionally I have stuck with neutral – eg black or nude – bags, shoes and other accessories. This year I’m gonna go for colour and I’m already well on my way thanks to the lovely blush pink wallet Miss 22 gave me for my birthday 🙂 .

B – A bold lip. Like many of us, I get lazy and stick with a low key lipstick for everyday use. I’m gonna grab my makeup artist friend and get  her to help me choose a bold lipstick that will lift my spirits whenever I wear it!

C – Clothing. Of course 😉 . This will be more difficult in winter when my outfits seem to consist of 50 shades of grey (and black). While grey and black will still have their place, this year, I’m up for the challenge of adding colour even in the middle of winter!

D – Diet. A healthy diet includes lots of colours (not artificial ones though). If I remember “colour” whenever I’m preparing a meal, I can’t go too far wrong!

E – Excursions and dates. Now that the worst of the buying/selling/moving house project is done, it’s time for my Bear and I to make a point of going out on dates together – to ride a Lime scooter, to see the Natural Arch in Springbrook, to visit cute little cafes … you get the idea.

F – Flowers. While I’m not about to go out and buy a bunch of flowers every week, I’m sure there are ways that I can bring the scent and colour of flowers into my life!

G – Greenery. I want to bring lots of greenery into our home, pot plants and such, as not only will that add colour but also improve the air quality.

H – Hair Colour. I have changed my hair colour already this year – a subtle change, but a change nonetheless. Instead of just blonde highlights, I’m now sporting a more natural mix of blonde AND caramel and I am loving it. And who knows, maybe later in the year I might use a spray in colour (hot pink anyone?!) just for the heck of it!

I – Interior decorating. After painting and carpeting, and with some neutral furniture, we have the blank canvas. Now for the fun part – bringing some colour into our home 🙂 .

J – Jigsaws. One of the reasons I love jigsaw puzzles is that they are usually bursting with colour. I’ve just completed my first 1000 piece jigsaw after several months’ break (while we shifted house), and am looking forward to doing more in 2019.

K – Knickers. For far too long I have mostly settled for boring black or nude knickers for practicality reasons. It’s time for me to live a little and wear colour every day, even if it is just socks and jocks!

L – Language. Hmmm, colourful language. Actually this is probably one area of my life where I really need to be LESS colourful – and stop swearing so much …

M – Money. Money is colourful and I sure wouldn’t mind a bit more of it in my life!

N – Nails. My nails are short, weak and brittle so I’ve never really bothered with nail polish. This year I’m going to make a point of wearing colour on my nails anyway – who cares if my nails aren’t perfect talons!

O – Outdoors. One of the best ways to get a regular dose of colour? Head outdoors of course!

P – Pop of Colour. I’m going to consciously look for ways that I can add a “pop of colour” to my outfits, my home, anywhere, any time …

Q – Quotient. I guess you could say I will be constantly looking for ways to up my colour quotient!

R – Rose coloured glasses. I’m planning to look at the world with rose coloured glasses (according to the hubster, this is something I do anyway) – to look for what is good, what is beautiful, what is pure, what is true, what is excellent, what is worthy …

S – Spontaneity. By nature, I’m a methodical plodder – and there’s nothing wrong with that (that’s probably why I love SEO). But just a bit more spontaneity has the potential to bring rich colour to my life!

T – Take Risks. See “S – Spontaneity” above!

U – Umbrella. Luckily I already have a gorgeous colourful umbrella to brighten up any rainy days!

V – Vision Board. A vision board is a colourful way of setting out your plans and intentions for the future. I’ve recently come across a lady who does vision board workshops so I’m going to book myself in!

W – Writing things down. Why be boring when I can use colourful pens so whenever I need to write something down, whether a shopping list, brainstorm, or note.

X – See “E” – eXcursions and dates.

Y – Say YES more often. I’ve already mentioned that spontaneity isn’t one of my strong points; saying YES more often opens the door wide to colour and adventure.

Z – Zen. A bit of mindful colouring will be a great way to help me find my zen.

Reading over this list, it occurs to me that colour shouldn’t be reserved for things that are perfect, or special occasions, but something that should be embraced every day!

If I’ve already gleaned this one insight in the first month of the year, I wonder what else will be revealed over the next 11 months?!

Which letter in my A to Z list appeals to you the most – and why?!

Thanks for the shout out Janet – I think you should do what I’m doing and expand on these throughout the year – so many of these deserve more than a paragraph! BTW I took that exact photo of the waterfall today and I have purple in my hair atm – so I’m on the way to being more colourful too – I think you could have included S for Shoes in there with those lovely red ones in the umbrella pic. Loved the jigsaw and the colouring in (both favourites of mine). You should be linking up with us at MLSTL on Wednesdays with posts like this – the others would love it. xx

So glad you had a lovely time here in Qld, just sorry I didn’t get to meet up with you. I love what you are doing with MLSTL but rarely join blog linkups these days, I don’t like to join up if I can’t participate and visit/comment on others’ blogs.
