The Wedding that Wasn’t: A Coronavirus Update

wedding prep update

I’m feeling sad because Miss 23’s wedding should have taken place last week.

They’re engaged! October 2018

Thanks a lot Coronavirus – NOT.

The invitations had already been sent

Pretty much all of the wedding had been organised … but it’s all been put on ice.

In the early days of the Coronavirus crisis, the happy couple made the decision to postpone the wedding until September. They contacted the celebrant, the makeup artist, the florist, the DJ …. all the way down the list, and were able to re-book everybody except for the photographer. I think they both felt a lot of relief at taking control of the situation and being proactive.

BUT then came the official restrictions – they got a phone call from the venue saying they weren’t allowed to re-open for SIX MONTHS – which would be October.

This news was a LOT harder to take.

We were heartbroken for the kids, who understandably weren’t thrilled at having to turn around and try to reschedule everything again.

Plus, they didn’t particularly want to be married in October which is his birthday, or in November, which is hers.

Nor do they want to postpone until 2021; they want to get married in 2020. As Miss 23 says, it makes it a lot easier to remember!

The original wedding date was intentionally chosen to be just days before our own 30th anniversary. You see, there are 30 years between me and Miss 23. She was born only a few weeks before my 30th birthday. She graduated high school exactly 30 years after I did; and she was going to be married 30 years almost to the day after I was. It was kind of sweet how it all worked out but of course that’s gone by the wayside now.

What a pain in the proverbial for the kids! I suspect that if everything wasn’t already booked (and paid for), they would have got married anyway and to heck with the wedding.

For now though, they have decided to just leave the wedding arrangements in place for September. With Coronavirus numbers dropping off here in Queensland, fingers crossed that restrictions will lift in time! There is only a handful of guests coming from out of state (NSW) from what I remember.

Just one of many potential Mother of the Bride dresses I tried on!

So until then …

On the upside however …

Just have to remind myself that good things are worth waiting for!

What plans have you had to put on hold because of Coronavirus?
