We have made some wonderful technological advances in my lifetime.
In the last couple of decades our lives have been revolutionised by the internet, mobile phones, GPS, touch screens, Skype, virtual reality, and so much more.
You would think as a society that we would be all “invented” out – but here is a list of five things that I would REALLY like to see become a reality.
What I Really Wish Someone Would Invent:
1 – Bright, fluorescent coloured motorbike jackets. Okay, technically these probably already exist, but I wish that somebody would make them cool or law or something. The husbear has a motorbike licence (though no bike anymore) so I know how flippin’ dangerous the things can be. Even the safest and most alert motorbike riders in the world put themselves at risk on our roads – purely because they tend to wear black or dark leathers, which makes them difficult for other drivers to see. Think of the lives it would save!
2 – House numbers that have solar lighting. How many times have you tried to find an address after dark, only to peer hopelessly into the night in search of a house number? If they were lit up by solar lighting, it would be so much easier. I’m sure taxis and ambos would love it too!
3 – A smoke alarm that would shut the hell up when I yell, “I’m just cooking!” I don’t know about yours but ours seems to go off with monotonous regularity. No wonder people get frustrated and take the batteries out. So yes, this would also be a great safety mechanism.
4 – A front loading washing machine that you can open after a cycle has started –Β so you can add in the item you’ve forgotten to put into the wash. (Or is that just my middle aged brain catching up with me?!)
5 – An electric kettle that is insulated – so once you’ve boiled it, it STAYS hot all day, so you don’t have to waste electricity re-boiling it every couple of hours. I’m no expert about the laws of physics and thermodynamics, so I’m not even sure it’s possible …
So that’s my list of inventions that have yet to be invented … do you have anything that you would add?!

A self cleaning house ; )
Janet Camilleri says
YES!!! Absolutely 100% agree π
Denise says
A machine that preps and cooks fresh, nutritious meals. I’d pay a fortune for that!
Janet Camilleri says
That would be lovely π
Tracy Norris says
I bought a top loading machine for exactly that reason! I hated both front loaders I had.
And we have a solar number house light π
Janet Camilleri says
Ok so I’m a bit behind the times with the solar light π
Lyn M says
Self-cleaning car windscreens (and house windows)
Car indicators that activate even it the driver forgets to do it
Gutter guards that actually work (or a system that you can clean yourself without having to climb up ladders to do it.
Silenced leaf blowers and other noisy yard equipment
Automatic mobile phone silencing at the movies (and other places where people are enjoying entertainment)
Noise limiters in shops and personal music devices (I getting less tolerant to loud noise as I get older)
Janet Camilleri says
Lyn you are a genius, I love all these!!!!
