A Wedding Day Disaster

Every bride dreams of a wedding that is perfect, and spends hours in the planning and preparation – to make sure that getting hitched goes without a hitch (see what I’ve done there?!).

Can you spot the wedding day disaster in this photo?!

Yet despite this, things don’t always go according to plan … most couples will have at least one story of a wedding day disaster.

The hubster and I are no different!

To mark our wedding anniversary today, I thought I’d share just some of the little hiccups  e had along the way …

Wedding Day Disaster #1

My best friend was meant to be a bridesmaid but announced she was pregnant – and would be hugely so by the time our Day rolled around; so I had to re-shuffle the bridesmaids. (Now, I would’ve kept her in the lineup and who cares if she had a big tummy in the photos).

Wedding Day Disaster #2

I wanted wine red for the bridesmaid dresses – just like my own daughter ended up choosing for her wedding. Alas, it was not “in fashion” at the time, or maybe I just went to buy the fabric at the wrong time of year. I agonised over what to choose instead. We ended up choosing lipstick pink, an almost red shade, although purple was also a front-runner …

Wedding Day Disaster #3

Despite organising our wedding invitations in plenty of time, they were late coming back from the printer. So instead of sending them out the usual 6 to 8 weeks ahead, ours only got posted about 4 weeks before the big day …

Wedding Day Disaster #4

Now THIS was tragic. The priest forgot to say “You may now kiss the bride”!

I Must Confess: I was devastated. Isn’t this the moment that every girl dreams of her whole life? And I was cheated, ROBBED I tell ya!

As a result, I was still wearing my veil over my face when we signed the register. Not happy Jan.

In the video, as we stand in front of the church and the priest announces us “Mr and Mrs”, you can see me hissing out of the side of my mouth: “Kiss me!” to the hubster, and his Mum in the front row nodding and miming lifting up my veil to give me a kiss!

So I did get my kiss in the end, but it was just a quick embarrassed peck, rather than the loving tender moment I’d always dreamed of.

Wedding Day Disaster #5

As wedding cakes go, it’s alright – just NOTHING like what I ordered!

I hated our wedding cake.

I’d gone on the recommendation of a friend, but when we ordered the cake the assistant seemed very resistant to my idea of having a red ribbon trim and flowers with red edging on the icing (to match the bridesmaids – duh).

I didn’t think much of it until we went to pick up the cake only to find it was NOTHING like what we’d requested. It was plain and boring white. Not a trace of red anywhere.

What could we do? It was the day before the wedding; we’d just have to go with it.

NOW, I would definitely NOT pay for a cake that wasn’t made to our specifications; but back then I just shut up and put up.

Despite all these hiccups, we had a beautiful wedding day and look back now on it and have a bit of a laugh.

And when you think about it, it was all good preparation for married life, which comes with plenty of disasters and hiccups along the way  …
