What is Fashion from the Real World?

Maybe you’ve noticed that I often use the hashtag #fashionfromtherealworld on my blog and social media posts.

But then some bright spark asked me: what exactly IS fashion from the real world?!

Well, that really got me scratching my head. How to sum it up in ten points or less?

Here’s what I came up with:

Signs you love Fashion from the Real World

  1. You’re more likely to shop at chain stores than designer boutiques.
  2. You wear clothing appropriate for the season. Just because the shops are stocking winter wear right now, doesn’t mean you ‘re wearing it while the temperatures are still above 30 degrees Celsius!
  3. You think op shopping is a perfectly acceptable way to add value to your wardrobe.
  4. You wear an outfit more than once. In fact, you wear things over and over again – shock horror!
  5. You don’t need a credit card limit the size of Australia’s national debt.
  6. Handwash? Dry Clean Only? Ain’t nobody got time for that!
  7. Your clothes are stylish, but still comfortable and practical.
  8. You dress to suit your own unique shape and style while embracing trends when you can. (I don’t care how “on trend” kimono jackets are – and I do love the look – but I’ve yet to find one that works on me and doesn’t look a. like a dressing gown or robe or b. just makes me look big and shapeless).
  9. You don’t join social media link ups like “Everyday Style” everyday, because let’s face it, many are the days when your (okay, MY) style isn’t worth sharing 😉 .
  10. And for every one great “fashion” pic you take, there are plenty of duds … like these …

I share style pics and so much more over on my Instagram – I’d love it if you followed me there.

And if you too love #fashionfromtherealworld – feel free to use the hashtag on your Instagram style pics so I can pop by and visit – let’s inspire each other to stay stylish, but keep it real!

Have I missed anything? What else does “fashion from the real world” mean to you?
