Are you a morning person – or do you consider the phrase “good morning” to be an oxymoron?!
For most of our married life (25 years), *I* have been the one to get up first each morning.
It has always taken me longer to get ready in the morning than the hubster – all he has to worry about is showering, shaving and throwing on some clothes (he’s not a breakfast person). Whereas I struggled to fit in not only time for breakfast, but also doing my hair, makeup, and choosing an outfit for the day!
When I was a Stay at Home Mum, I continued to be the first one up. Let’s face it, when the kids are little, if you don’t grab a shower before the other half leaves for work, chances are you WON’T get a shower that day 😉 .
Since my redundancy however, I find I *love* our morning routine. At the risk of sounding smug, I thought I’d share it with you (and maybe give you hope for the future!) …
- We wake naturally and never have to set an alarm. What luxury!
- When we first wake up, we cuddle together and doze until it’s time to get up – usually between 7.30 and 8. (I should add that I work from home, and hubster works nearby);
- As soon as Miss Fleur hears movement, she comes into our bedroom to demand lots of pats and love;
- The hubster brings me a cup of coffee in bed, and we drink our coffees together;
- While the hubster has a shower, I turn the TV on and watch a bit of the “Today” show (Lisa Wilkinson has been a girl crush of mine since she was the editor of Dolly 30-something years ago) – it’s a great way to catch up on the news and what’s going on in the world;
- With Miss Fleur purring on my lap, I check my phone to make sure my latest blog post has published, and scroll through my social media;
- It’s usually close to 8.30 – and the hubster has already left for the office – when I finally get up for breakfast and a shower;
- I’m usually at my desk by 10 at the latest – I usually put on a load of washing, deal with the dishes and make the bed before I start work.
After many years of having to rise to an alarm, often before first light, I am really enjoying the more leisurely way we now start our mornings. They are good mornings, indeed!
How do you like to start the day – are you a morning person or a night owl?!
