My younger self would be amazed to learn that these days, I don’t wear a watch.
Getting a watch was a big deal when I was growing up, almost a rite of passage. I received my first one as a present for my tenth birthday, and can still remember how hard it was to find one that actually fit me, as I was a skinny kid with the tiniest wrists imaginable.
While I was at teacher’s college, I worked part-time at a jewellery store. With generous staff discounts AND seeing all the gorgeous new stock coming in, I was in for some serious temptation! I developed a bit of a “thing” for watches and owned several, from elegant silver and gold ones, to casual Swatch watches (which were HUGE at the time).
Thirty years later, I rarely wear a watch despite still owning a couple of beautiful ones.

Some of it I blame on my time as a library assistant. The magnetic equipment (to prevent theft of library items) played havoc with watches. Usually within a few weeks my watch would need a new battery, so I stopped bothering to put it on before work each morning.
But despite no longer working in a library, I still haven’t gone back to wearing a watch.
Why I Don’t Wear a Watch Anymore …
The main reason is *cough* age-related.
I just can’t read the time on a watch anymore without popping on a pair of specs – which is a pain in the derriere! It’s much quicker and easier to check the time on my mobile phone – or to ask the hubster to check HIS watch 😉 .
And, because I work from home and sit in front of a computer, I can see the time in front of me most of the day anyway.
So tell me – do you still wear a watch – and what style do you prefer?
I have over 10 watches & never wear one!
I always used to wear one to work, but I kept on catching it on my clothes & scarves a couple of years ago & gave up.
Like you I always have my phone, iPad or computer around so I can look at one of those devices for the time, OR I can ask Mark who still usually wears one 🙂
I’ve never really got into wearing watches. I also struggle finding one to fit my awkwardly skinny wrists! I almost feel like watches for women are a thing of the past, very trendy for men still though!
Yep, can’t wear watches at work either so mostly don’t remember to put one on when I’m not at work.
Ooh i love wearing my watch! Feel so lost without it.
Usually a watch wearer, but mine ran out of battery a month or so ago and I’ve not had time to replace it yet. 🙂
I used to wear them all the time too!
I rarely do these days although I do have one. I stopped in Darwin because I found them too hot, and I just never got back to it. Although this post makes me want to go and put one on right now.
I haven’t worn a watch for years. I felt so free when I decided not to wear one.
I felt lost at first but now it’s great 🙂
