World Compliments Day

World Compliments Day

Apparently March 1 is not just the official start of Autumn here in the southern hemisphere … it’s also “World Compliments Day”.

I’ve received two lovely compliments in recent weeks, and obviously I’ve treasured them as not only have I remembered them, but I’m now about to share them with you …

Compliment #1

Mr 22 and I were watching an interview with John, the oldest groom from TV’s “Married at First Sight”. I happened to comment that even though John is 53 or 54 – roughly my age – I felt like he looked heaps older.

I promise I wasn’t fishing for compliments! In fact, I was stunned when Mr 22, in all seriousness turned to me and said: “Mum, you could easily pass for 40 – and I’m not just saying that because you’re my mum.” What a sweet young man!

Compliment #2

Then I went for coffee with a friend – and she said I had lovely skin (thanks Liz)! After years of problem skin (and it still has its moments, believe me), this was music to my ears 🙂 .

Of course, not all compliments are about looks. Some of the most meaningful compliments remark on our work, our talents or our personality traits.

A gift for writing … who me?!

I will never forget when my Year 4 teacher took me aside and told me I had “a real gift for writing” … and a similar experience several years later, with my Year 10 English teacher.

It just goes to show that a sincere compliment can really touch us deeply – making our day, brightening our memories and even changing our lives!

So … when was the last time you gave somebody a compliment?

To mark World Compliments Day, I’m going to try and encourage at least one other person in this way – and will let you know how I go over on the Middle Aged Mama Facebook page.

Would love to hear if you manage to give a compliment to somebody today too!
