5 Reasons I am a Bad Blogger

Janet Camilleri · 30/11/2015 ·

I must confess: I am bad blogger.

I had this epiphany after attending a social media event on the weekend.

With Fiona, a Sister in Style

With Fiona, a Sister in Style …

But before I explain why, let me tell you a little about the event … it was hosted by the lovely Nikki from Styling You, to celebrate two years of hosting the #everydaystyle hashtag on Instagram. About 40 regular participants from south east Queensland were invited to don their daytime summer glamour looks (not-so-everyday-style!), for a luncheon on the Hilton’s poolside terrace.

Phones, tablets, action!

Watching how others operate, smartphone in hand, and hearing about their blogging habits, I realised that at times I am a bad blogger – and here’s why:

5 Reasons I am a Bad Blogger!

    • When eating out, I don’t take photos of my food for social media. Usually I’ve already started tucking in before I even think of it! Ooops … (although I did manage to snap a pic of dessert before I demolished it, this lemon meringue pie was to die for!)

lemon meringue pie mmm

  • I don’t have my blog posts done up a month in advance, like the experts suggest. Heck, if I manage to be a week in advance I think that’s pretty awesome! I’m typing this up on Sunday night ready to publish Monday …
  • I also don’t have any real goals or plan of attack for this blog – I’m more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my pants gal. It can be a wild ride at times, but oh-so-exhilarating! I really enjoy watching Middle Aged Mama develop organically. There is nothing better than running with inspiration when it strikes, rather than following a precise method or plan to grow my social media accounts, run a blog series, publish an e-book or other resources …
  • I don’t have an email newsletter yet. But it’s coming, so make sure you sign up at the bottom of this post!
  • I don’t always respond to your comments. Bad blogger. I know, I’m sorry. I really love hearing from you and I do try to respond. Sometimes I get caught up in other things – I’m sure you know how it is – from one busy middle aged woman to another!

It might be true that I am a bad blogger, but hopefully I’m lovable (and cheeky!) so that kinds of makes up for it πŸ˜‰ !

I’m such a bad blogger, especially lately. October and November have been my lowest numbers of posts but I think we need to ease back every now and again. Glad you had a good time.

nothing wrong with being a bad blogger, everyone does it their own way!

(I snap photos of my meals, but forget to share them!)

Join the “Bad Bloggers Club” Janet! I’m in there with you (and Hugzilla & Kathy by the looks of it). I think everyone needs to do what suits them. Don’t put pressure on yourself based on what other people say they do! So pleased to hear you enjoyed the event – you look lovely in the pic, and so does the dessert! πŸ™‚

I am a bad blogger too – right in line behind you with all FIVE.
Since I’m riding a wave of mixed emotions about blogging and life. I don’t even care.
I enjoy your posts just as you are.
I delete mst newsletters anyway – no time to read them.
I blog by the whispers on the wind.

I love your blog Janet. I think flying by the seat of your pants is fantastic. I am not organised a month in advanced and sometimes go a month without a post on my Julie in the Making. Hope to get back into the swing of things over summer.

Yep I think I might fall into the ‘bad blogger’ category too. Although I do respond to all my comments because I don’t get many so when I do it’s very exciting! Keep up the awesome work Janet xxx

Yes, you’re very loveable and cheeky Janet, which is why I like you and your blog. I’m usually far too serious and need people like you in my (online) life xo

Well there you go, I’m a bad blogger too. I never have anything done in advance. If I did I would just keep re writing over and over until I sounded like a complete tosser. Glad there are a few of us and it’s not just me.

I could never plan my posts! I sit and write them as the feeling arises. I never take photos of food and I don’t like reading newsletters and assume nobody would want to read mine. I subscribe to posts. I don’t need to read newsletters. Shouldn’t the news be in the posts? But that’s just me. Love your dress. It’s purty. I love roses.

You are not a bad blogger at all Janet. I think there is a great deal of difference between blogging in itself and blogging as a business. It’s all moving to organisation and tools and systems right now for bloggers setting themselves up as a business. But not jumping on that bandwagon doesn’t make you a bad blogger at all – stay you and stay organic x

I’m sometimes finishing my posts the morning I’m posting them lol so if I was a week in advance I’d be cheering. I don’t have proper goals or anything either. I think if I didn’t have a toddler to look after every day I’d be a lot more focused.

Naughty blogger! To the timeout corner!

Oh if you think that’s bad, I’m the worst then! I’m all those things too. Hello I haven’t posted in 2 weeks. Unfortunately blogging has been pushed down the priority list πŸ™ It shouldn’t be cause I enjoy blogging, but I don’t like to post stuff for the sake of posting stuff. I know my lack of online efforts is hurting my visibility, but that’s not that important to me either. I think those who enjoy your writing will come whenever you get online.

I’m a bad gal too. I have never had a post pre-prepared, although I do sometimes take a week to do one so it’s not that I’m not working, more like they never get finished until the last minute lol. I love that you are a by the seat of your pants girl.

I don’t think it matters Jan if we break the blogging “rules”, so long as we are having fun πŸ™‚
