5 Reasons why Google is a Woman

Janet Camilleri · 04/10/2013 ·

It’s hard to explain concisely what my day job is, even for a talented wordsmith such as myself 😉 … but I’ll try.

5 reasons why google is a woman

I run my own business, based primarily around my writing skills:

  • writing web content that gets found (called SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation);
  • creating email newsletters;
  • writing magazine editorial, brochures, and other copywriting projects.

If I had to choose one title, or my favourite aspect of my work, it would be as an SEO copywriter – writing content that pleases Google as well as the human audience!

As a result, I’ve learned a lot about SEO and especially the Grand Dame of the search world, Google. And that’s when I realised: I have reason to believe that Google is actually a woman!

It totally makes sense! Let me explain …

5 Reasons Why Google is a Woman

1. She changes the rules all the time. Just when you think you’ve got Google figured out and are attracting lots of search traffic, BOOM, they change the rules and your impressive web stats can fall into a miserable heap.

2. How her mind works is a mystery. Whatever the secret algorithm, rhyme, or reason behind Google – it’s exactly that, a secret. Nobody knows for sure what is going on in her head. Forget the International Man of Mystery (aka Austen Powers): Google is the International Woman of Mystery!

3. She likes to flaunt a new look and celebrates special occasions.  We’ve all seen the regular changes to her image on the Google home page, and how she goes all fancy for Christmas, Einstein’s birthday, and other (obscure) occasions.

4. She is a bit of a know-it-all! I may *ahem* have been accused of this once or twice in my life. But Google definitely knows it all. Want to know anything? Anything at all? The first person you’ll turn to is Google because SHE KNOWS!

5. If you give her too much attention, she gets suspicious. You know the cliche of the cheating boyfriend suddenly bringing home flowers, for no apparent reason? Any smart woman would be suspicious … well recently, I was doing a number of searches and GOOGLE WAS SUSPICIOUS! I kept having to re-enter my password and type certain words, just to confirm it was actually me – and not a bot!

I’m convinced that Google is a woman – are you?!

    I love the way Google celebrates special events and days by changing their logo. We need more companies with a sense of humour 🙂

    I’m convinced!! I have a question, is Google now channeling BING because that is what comes up when I try search via Google, is there some relationship or is my annoying Firefox playing up on me! Just asking cos you’re a Google queen!

      It could be Firefox – have you tried in another browser?

    Google is a total mystery, that’s for sure! But it’s like this huge beast that you have no other alternative but to try and tackle it.
