A Model Family

Janet Camilleri · 19/09/2016 ·

A few weekends ago, we did a bit of a pre-spring clean – cleaning out and organising the wardrobe in my office.

tidy office shelves

Neat and tidy at last!

It was a bit of a disaster area to be honest, so what the hubster thought would be a quick one hour job, ended up filling the whole weekend.

Still, it was worth it and we are both mighty pleased with the results.

Seth hard at work not

Seth found all this de-cluttering exhausting … so he had a cat nap

We created a keepsakes box for each family member, and it was then I realised – we really are a bit of a model family (and I’m not referring to the fact that we look like the perfect nuclear family with mum, dad and two kids – one boy, one girl)!

My Brief Modelling Career

When I was 12, I did a spot of modelling for a David Jones newspaper advert. It had nothing to do with my good looks, and everything to do with having a stepsister at the time working as a graphic artist for DJ’s 😉 .

My Husband on a Magazine Cover

However the lucky streak good genes must be a family thing, because the hubster has even been on the cover of a magazine, back in the nineties …

You’ve probably never heard of the magazine, but no wonder they chose him – how gorgeous does he look? 😉

Miss 19 is a Model Family Member

When our daughter was nearly 3, I was asked if she could model some children’s dressing up clothes for a friend’s business. A fashion parade was held at a local play centre, and can I just say, how angelic does our girl look?!

In actual fact she was the queen of tantrums as a toddler, so the picture is definitely misleading!

She has also been a calendar girl – appearing on a desktop calendar which was given to all teachers in the local area. I was working in the department which created the calendars so it seemed only natural to nominate my own kids when they needed a model from her school … at least they didn’t have any problem getting parental approval!

Cover Models

And here’s a pic of me and my girl on the cover of a magazine, when she was 14. One of the perks of being the editor, is you can put your own photo on the cover if you want. Mind you it’s the only time I did it in my 15 years as editor!

But what about Mr 22?

Well here he is (along with his sister) in Caravan and Motorhome magazine.

Seems he’s a little bit camera shy – he’s got some catching up to do 😉 .

See – I told ya we were a model family!

Have you ever had 5 minutes of fame in the pages of a magazine or newspaper – or maybe even on TV – or has anybody in your family?!

That’s right – I saw you in the Meals on Wheels story in the paper last week! Your model family gives mine some stiff competition 😉

I was in the paper (SMH and The Age) and appeared on Mornings last year for No Buy July, I was on a local TV ad for an annual folk fair for a couple of years, got in the local papers a few times as a kid and probably most “famously”, appeared on an episode of The Weakest Link in 2001. Still chasing my more than 15 minutes 😀

Meet the Middle Aged Mama

Janet Camilleri is an Australian bloggerHi - I'm Janet Camilleri aka the Middle Aged Mama; crazy cat lady, award-winning business woman, and mother of two grown children. I might be a middle aged woman, but that doesn't mean I've lost all interest in looking stylish! I love chocolate, chick lit, cruising holidays and the husbear - and not necessarily in that order wink. I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm learning how to fashion a new life now that we have an empty nest - did somebody say "travel"?!
